Positives
- Great in Uneven Snow For Being So Short and Wide
- Fun Spring On The Back Foot On Groomers
- Great Board For The Price
Negatives
- Narrow over the Back Foot
- Not For Front or Center Foot Weighted Turners
Summary
The Nitro Fin Twin is a great option for a low priced short/wide snowsurf kind of ride as long as you are ok with something that prefers back foot weighted turns and you are ok with an extruded base.Where To Buy

A Detailed Objective Breakdown of How The Nitro Fin Twin Rides Review by The Good Ride

How The Nitro Fin Twin Was Tested:

I borrowed the for an extended demo and sent it back. 1-day demo. A few laps at a demo. I liked it so much I asked to keep it (only do this with favorites). I liked it so much we bought it. Precious Good Ride dollars were spent buying and reviewing this.

Approximate Weight
(We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores, there is no consistency in a board’s weight)
Sizing

The Nitro Fin Twin only comes in 149 but it was a good size for me. The waist and especially the front foot have a very mid/wide feel but the back foot’s inserts are really narrow. So I think it’s more ideal for size 8-9 riders and I don’t feel this is a mid/wide like Nitro says.
I wouldn’t go too big in the boot just because this back area isn’t as wide as the front. It’s a very tapered board.
Shape

The Nitro Fin Twin is is very tapered, very directional with 4 massive CM of taper. Not many boards have this much taper and it really feels like a lot more board on your front foot with less in the back. Some will love it and some might find it a little lopsided.
Camber/On Snow Feel

The Nitro Fin Twin has camber running from the tail with a high point a little back on board. Then it transitions down as you get to the front foot with a long transition to early rise before the nose. It does rise up more when you weight it down. I really felt the camber on the back foot and while there isn’t much in the nose/ to front foot it feels pretty technical and more for advanced expert riders. A strong intermediate could handle this, but you’re probably going to catch an edge here and there and take some lumps.
Edge Hold
The Nitro Fin Twin grips pretty well for having no disruption in the sidecut as long as you really engage the edge near the tail. When I only hit a few hard patches but it was more than fine when I did as long as I dialed back my turns.
Flex Personality

The Nitro Fin Twin doesn’t have a super stiff flex, in the nose and over the front foot but it is pretty stiff in the tail making it medium/stiff overall.
Buttering
It was okay to butter in the nose but the tail takes a little work.
Ollies/Getting Air
Nitro has a somewhat rubbery flex but such a nice energetic snap back after you flex it. If it wasn’t so light in the tail this would be really fun to get air with and ollie but it sapped a little of my coonfidence being so far back on the board with soo little tail.
Uneven Snow

t has some special kind of magic going on here that gives it that rubbery, shock absorbent, chatter-resistant personality that I like in all conditions. Yes. This is a short wide.
It can buck and bounce a lot in uneven snow just because of its size, but it does very well for the shape, width, length, and its overall design. This was one of the better Short/Wide Snow surf kind of rides I tried.
Speed

I thought all this taper, set back stance and short width of the Nitro Fin Twin would make this a really sketchy board to go fast with but it did better than expected.
But I like what they’re doing with the sidecut where they give a more mellow entry that then goes deeper out the back.
So it can handle a short straight line or two but it’s not a bomber, and it doesn’t feel hokey or catchy when you go straight.
Base Glide

When it comes to base glide, it’s good for the price point, but it’s not going to blow minds.
Turning/Carving

First off, I felt the Nitro Fin Twin really likes a posi stance for this to light up and the more posi I went the better it felt. Turn initiation is quick and easy for my size 9s.
Because you have almost four centimeters of taper, you really need to engage this more deep part of the sidecut to really get a good turn.
The Fin Twin is obviously a more turny slash board, but it could handle a good down-the-line turn much better than expected. Then this camber and poppy flex really had good spring out of the tail on a turn.
Powder

The Nitro Fin Twin floated like I had hoped it would. It’s not without limitations like not being great (like all Short/Wide Snowsurf Rides) in really low angle pow I see at Bachelor but it’s not bad for what it is. This wasn’t even trying in the modest pow I had and it becomes even more turny and slashy than it was on groomers.
This would have been really fun for back in the day when I used to ride in Tahoe and Mammoth with more steep terrain as long as it wasn’t one of those mega dumps.
Pow Setback On Board

And when it comes to set back on board versus set back on sidecut you can get 5.5″ back from center of board at a 22″ stance width measured from the tail or -7.625 inches from the center of the swallowtail. That is in the snowsurf realm for sure and even though I often called it a short/wide, which it is, it’s more of a snowsurf short wide.
Final Thoughts
So overall I had a pretty fun time on the Fin Twin and this performed very well for the price point. I personally enjoyed this more than the Rossignol Sushi. even though I didn’t do same day tests with it, I felt like the Fin Twin had a better flex personality with more pop and drive out of the turn. I think this is a pretty fun overall ride and there aren’t many low cost options for Snowsurf Rides. It is very much a quiver board though and it would only work as a daily driver for riders with very specific needs.
