Positives
- Super damp but still has great pop.
- Great carver
- Excellent All Condition Ride
- Lifted Sides of Nose aren't washy
Negatives
- Not as much float as some of it’s peers.
- Front Inserts are only 5x2
Summary
The Amplid Souly Grail doesn’t have the easy setback float I personally like, but it does have a damp ride beyond its flex without sacrificing pop. It's one of the best boards in uneven snow you can get with this much pop and this easy of a flex.Where To Buy

How It Was Tested
I rode the Amplid Souly Grail on its own but then compared it against the Soul Mate, Singular, Burton Power Wagon, and Burton Gril Master
Approximate Weight
The Amplid Souly Grail feels pretty normal in weight.
(We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores, there is no consistency in a boards weight)
Sizing
Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these boards. You can of course, go bigger or smaller depending on your riding style and boot’s footprint, but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag.
153: 8-9
157: 9-10
162: 10-11
For weight, I would stay close to the brand recommendations, but If it comes down to boot size or weight, I would make sure it fits your boot first. What is cool about Amplid is the construction and dampness can allow a heavier rider whereas some brands can’t offer that.
Shape
The Amplid Souly Grail is tapered and directional but doesn’t feel that way. If you rode this on groomers, you wouldn’t guess it has 6mm of taper. That isn’t a lot, but I’ve ridden many boards with 6mm of taper that can feel washy.
Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level
The Amplid Souly Grail has camber from pretty much the tail to just a little before the nose starts. Then it has lifted sides that don’t come into the camber profile at all, so it doesn’t wash with too much front foot pressure.
Flex Personality
You have a medium flex that doesn’t seem to mellow out in the tip/tail and might even be a touch stiffer at the ends. The Amplid Souly Grail isn’t easy to butter for average riders, but it pops really hard on an ollie. I love how dynamic this flex is for how damp it is.
Uneven Terrain
This is what really makes the Amplid Souly Grail shine as a board. It has incredible vibration/chatter absorption. It can handle hard, microbumpy snow just as well as soft, uneven snow. I don’t think I’ve ridden a board this damp with this kind of flex.
Edge Hold
There isn’t any special disruption in the sidecut but it sure does hold an edge well if the snow can get hard. It’s not an ice specialist, but the edge stays super quiet in any kind of snow, so it does better than you would think.
Speed/Base Glide
The base glide is easy but not effortless like some I’ve tried. Still, if it’s waxed well
Turning Experience/Carving
Here is another place where the Amplid Souly Grail shines. It’s pretty quick edge to edge but when you get it on edge is where the fun begins. This has a pretty balanced, if not a touch-turny, sidecut that can make any kind of turn. Then, even better, you can weigh a turn any way you want to. You can drive hard off the front foot, center weight your turns or lean into the back foot on the way out of a turn.
Powder
So if you like a setback and surfy ride in pow, the Amplid Souly Grail won’t do that very well. If you like a centered ride for getting air or steep terrain, this will do just fine. In the low-angle powder I got it in at Mt. Bachelor, this struggled a bit compared to some of its peers, but it wasn’t terrible either. I did like how well the lifted sides of the nose turned in powder and it makes for a pretty smooth experience.
There is a decent setback on board in powder, but you need a 23” stance width to utilize the 4” back from the center of the board. With a 21.5” stance width, I couldn’t get as far back as I’d like. There is also something a bit different with Amplid because they have 5×2 inserts on the front foot and 6×2 on the back. If anything, I’d like that reversed so I could set the front foot back more.
Switch/Pipe/Jumps
Pretty fun switch for how directional it is. I wouldn’t mind riding the pipe or hitting kickers of any size…if I was willing.
Conclusion
So overall, the Amplid Souly Grail isn’t going to be the best for low-angle pow riding, but it has next-level dampness, great pop, and is a very special carver. It’s the kind of board I wanted to own and ride a lot.
