Burton Flight Attendant 2019 - 2015 Review by The Good Ride
The Burton Flight Attendant takes a tapered directional board and gives it more of a double ender feel. It makes it a fun groomer carver/bomber and a powder friendly Freeride board that has a strong All Mountain Aftertaste. Not much has changed from 2015-2019 but the review has been updated to keep comparisons current. The only real change is there are a lot more sizes for 2017-2019, they can handle a little more weight, and there is a new top sheet for 2018-2019 that is more eco-friendly. It’s a board I recently rode again after a little hiatus it and it really brought my love back. I’m hoping to have back in my quiver this year (even more updated review coming first snow) and it’s a great one board quiver ride for those riders that favor directional riding a little more.

2015-2019 Burton Flight Attendant Snowboard Review
Conditions: soft snow with a soft and light day or 2 old CO powder… well soft and light for us. 2′ + of thick Sierra Powder and lot’s of groomer days with hard to soft snow.

Set Up: Just a little wide of the reference stance, 22.5″ wide 15 front -9 back. A little bit set back and centered 23” wide 18 front 0 back, 22.5″ wide 15 front -6 back
Approximate Weight: 159 weighed 6.4lbs
Flex: Not quite the buttery board tip to tail but if you are strong you can butter off the tail. The rocker in the nose makes it easier. The flex is medium/stiff to us and provides a pretty aggressive feel.
On Snow Feel: The camber of the Burton Flight Attendant goes from the tail to about the tree logo after the binding inserts. Then there is a little early rise rocker before the nose. There is also a higher camber arc going on here than most hybrid camber rides out there and even some true camber boards. So it’s got a pretty locked in feel. The ride here is almost like that totally locked in feel of camber except it’s not quite as catchy thanks to the bit of early rise in the nose. This “Balanced Freeride Geometry” seems to help make the ride feel more like a double ender than you would think for this amount of taper and it’s not as washy off the tail when turning. It’s an amazing groomer board that can also do very well when it comes to directional powder riding which makes this a freeride board that many will really like. The one thing I’d say is it’s not for the intermediate rider or even the non-technical advanced rider. It’s for those that know how to turn really well and if you are that type of rider then you will be pretty stoked.
Powder: We had a few powder days now and it’s a great board for directional float. Even in thicker leftover powder and not that set back in the trees, the Burton Flight Attendant floated very well. Setting it all the way back into the deeper snow close to 2.5 feet, it didn’t feel like it was maxing out yet. It’s pretty quick turning in tight spots and tree runs but it’s not super quick. Most will be just fine with this. It’s a nice balance between a board that can carve really well and a board that can slash through trees. Also the camber all the way to the tail will help you pop really well off natural features. The set back on sidecut with the 159 is -35mm or almost 1.25″ on sidecut. However, set all the way back at a 23″ stance width the difference between nose and tail is very close to -6.25 inches and the setback on board is -3.125″. That’s pretty good set back on board and if you combine that with the little bit of early rise rocker and the tapered tail it really seems to help fight all that camber from sending you cartwheeling if you commit too much to that front foot in the deep stuff.
Turn Initiation: It’s pretty quick edge to edge but not super quick. It’s the kind of board I’m super comfortable riding through trees and tight spots or to just have a board that drives from edge to edge when you want it to.
Skidded Turns: Not an easy board to skid turns with and it could make turning slow and hard to do.
Turning Experience: It’s got that magical springy edge to edge feel like the Burton Custom X and it’s super fun to turn. The Burton Flight Attendant can drive a little more off the front foot than many boards with this much taper can and it makes it more versatile than many freeride boards when it comes to turning styles. Still, it really shines with a little more weight on the back foot when it comes to turning and it’s really springy from edge to edge. It seems like it’s programmed to help set you up for your next turn and it’s a very cool feeling.
Carving: If the snow isn’t too hard the Burton Flight Attendant is an incredible carver. It’s got soo much camber from the back foot to a good bit past the front binding that it springs out of a carve better than most full camber boards.
Speed: Very fast and stable. The Burton Flight Attendant base is fast and has a good glide to it. Also, it’s got a very chatter-free ride when you get some speed going.
Uneven Terrain: This is a chunder buster so it’s got a great feel when bombing through tracked out powder. It doesn’t bounce you around at all and it can also help you get around rutted up mogul type of snow rather well but not perfectly. It’s a stiffer board compared to most out there these days so it will take more work than some at the end of a crowded Saturday.
Edge Hold: The Burton Flight Attendant feels like it has great grip in medium to softer snow but as it starts to go from Medium to hard you feel it let go pretty quickly compared to many freeride boards out there with more going on with the sidecut. If you ride in places that often have hard to icy snow you might want to look for another board. Even after an edge tune by a guy who’s been doing this for 20+ years it helped but still didn’t have the grip I was hoping for on those harder days.
Switch: Now there is some sidecut tech going on in the Burton Flight Attendant that makes a tapered board ride better switch than you would think and I was impressed with the Flight Attendants switch-ability. It’s not going to blow your mind if you come from riding a twin but if you come from a tapered board with similar specs to the Flight Attendant it will be better than you thought. You can still feel that big ass nose dragging behind you riding switch but it’s doable for sure.
Jibbing: No jibbing with this board.
Pipe: As long as the pipe isn’t too hard I had a great time carving pipe walls with this.
Jumps: There is a lot of camber and pop with this board and it’s got a springy feel to it that pops well on an Ollie. It’s the kind of board that is about as good as you can get when it comes to directional air but it can land switch very well for it’s shape.
All in all, this was a board we found to be a great ride.

Great for powder great for piste
I started snowboarding in the year 2000. After 5 Years I didn't ride for 13 years, just to find myself last year riding (the 2nd holiday after the big break) a rental and not being happy with it. I knew I had the right technique but the board just didn't do it as a really good boarder explained to me what is what.
Now this is the first equipment I own. And I can tell you guys that this board is just amazing. I did not have any trouble riding it on icy patches (Zillertal in Austria) even though there are maybe better boards for it.
It really shines on groomers. It's reliable, it want's to hand to you the next turn it just feels like it's feeling the next step you're going to take (magical dancing). It's stable at high speeds (90 km/h no trouble at all). AND THEN you can still use it in powder and it feels amazing! For all you guys that don't ride park and look for a reliable 1 quiver board - GET THIS SWEET SWEET BABY! It made me really happy!
Fast carving and turning groomer and powder fun!
Last year I bought a FA 156, coming from a Custom X 156.
The Custom X 156 was a bit too agressive. Superfast, very stiff, no room for mistakes, 'drama' on groomers at the end of a day, and not that good off piste, in powder. Since I'm not interested in park at all, the FA seemed to be my ideal one board quiver on paper. The FA 156 has the dimensions that can be a bit compared with a normal Custom 154, it rides shorter than my old Custom X 156. But it has that lovely big broaed long nose, that only comes in play when you need it. In powder, fresh or old, or at the end of the day on groomers, in chunder.
With the stiffer Custom X I had to 'fight' more. The FA is much more playful, much more forgiving, it floats effortless, it turns and carves very very well, and it is superfast as well. Fun!
One negative thing that I recognise: it doesn't like hard icey patches, or when you're the first one on icey morning groomers... After the 2nd morning groomer run edgehold becomes much better though... And at the other hand: in the afternoon, in chunder, with moguls, it's very good.
Except from that edgehold thing... perfect!
(Wouldn't it be possible for Burton to just improve the edgehold without giving up on the other characteristics?!)
DO NOT PURCHASE THE BURTON FLIGHT ATTENDANT! My wife bought me this snowboard for Christmas. After 2 times of riding the board, the edging started to pop out. I sent it into Burton for repairs and told me it wouldn't be covered under warranty. I requested a repair since the board was only used for < 10 hours. I was told the board would never be safe to ride even after repairing and that at this point it would only make good artwork. After spending ~$550 and ~$350 on Genesis EST bindings, this was not the response i wanted to hear. At this point you might be thinking this is the user's fault. I can promise you, I only have ridden this board on groomers and the bottom of the board looks brand new. In addition, my good friend also purchased the same Flight Attendant a couple of months before me. The entire edging has completely come undone at the top from very little impact. He is going through the same conversations that I went though with Burton, who refuse to take responsibility for the poor build quality of these boards.
TL;DR The edges on this board will eventually pop out and Burton will not cover it.
Carving, bombing, powder!!
Recently got a chance to demo this board (159W) for 3 days at Park City and all I can say is thank you The Good Ride!!!
This board performed EXACTLY as described. It carves like a dream on groomers just springing from one turn to the next. Great for high speed, wide turns but was also quick edge to edge and you can certainly carve tight radius turns if you really lean into your carves and put some pressure on the board. Its got a ton of camber between the bindings which I thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the stiffest, most stable rides I have tried. Topped out at 65mph and the board felt like a freight train. No chatter whatsoever and just gives you a lot of confidence at high speed. Good for directional air but that's about it parkwise. Not much of a park rider myself anyways.
I got lucky to try the board out on a powder day, about a foot, and I was blown away. The tapered design combined with the big nose, generous rocker towards the front and set back stance gave the board effortless float in the powder. Great for long powder lines, riding through the trees and powering through soft, uneven terrain.
The board felt more surfy and playful on the powder day all throughout the mountain. It almost felt like it had a different personality in soft vs hard snow and I really enjoyed that.
I do have to say that the board is not very forgiving and is quite demanding. Not a board I would recommend for the beginner/intermediate rider or just anybody looking for a mellow all-mountain ride. Its a board that will make you work for your turns but also reward you for your efforts.
Overall a terrific board!! Great for big mountain riding on good snow. Flight attendant FTW!
Snow conditions were good with one powder day (about a foot of snow overnight).
Great all rounder
So I’ve been riding an old Burton Sherlock 160 for quite a few years and changed to the Flight Attendant 2018 159 as although the Sherlock was a great board I found it just too soft, washy and unstable at high speed.
At first I was a bit surprised at how stiff the Flight Attendant was and feared there could be some bite back but there wasn’t! I got out of shape on it several times and it warns you but let me away with it each time. Surprisingly forgiving for what is quite a stiff board.
Once I got some deep powder in I was sold! This thing floats with ease and yet carves up the piste so well too. If you like bombing down runs carving it up then this board is just a blast. Lots of pop out of the turns! Very stable at high speed with minimal chatter.
I do agree that the edge hold isn’t bottomless and I had it let go a few times on steep icy pistes when pushed. Also found the board (159) quite a narrow waist. I’m on a US 11 boot and it’s prob a little narrow for me but the wide version is also too wide (and performance sapping). On tracked out or heavy powder and crud it also didn’t feel as stable as my Barracuda.
This board does have a nice surfy feel and feels like a twin…until you get it in the powder, then it feels like a free ride powder weapon! It’s a great all round board.
My other board is a Barracuda 161 and I’m still undecided which is best in the powder!? OK maybe the Cuda wins it in deep and variable terrain but only just!? On piste this board is way livelier and snappier than the Cuda and rides switch more easily. In the park it felt stable and able! Solid landings. A great board!

I friggin' love this board. I ride the 156, 2017 and ride it in all conditions unless i know it is a full blown powder day (when I bring out either my ConArtist or Barracuda). It gets the majority of my resort days.
Carves fantastic, can bomb (definitely my fastest days are on this board), deals with a mx of conditions with ease and if the snow gets deep it handles it really well. If i could only have one board i would choose this one. I usually ride it with genesis X bindings and Ion boots.
My buying decision was heavily induced by the goodride, at the time it was one of the men's favourites and every aspect of the review above played out as true. Thanks GoodRide!
I've owned a burton process for about 6 years and I just bought a new 2018 flight attendant for a more aggressive free ride board. I rode the flight attendant for the first day yesterday I absolutely love the board it feels really comfortable I had the angles and width set very close to my old board but I had the stance set all the way back. The weather man said 3 feet of dry powder in 72 hours but the conditions where weird there was about .25-1in of crust on top of 14in of thick powder with pockets of 2feet of dry under all that. I found 3-4 feet of untouched in the trees where they had just opened some new runs up. Even though the day wasn’t perfect it gave me a chance to really try out the boards abilities in a lot of different conditions. It did great in deep powder the tail sank effortlessly. Even with it set back all the way on the crusty groomers and even some ice patches it held an edge really well and it didn’t feel very washy to me at all. I looked at a lot of James reviews online before buying the FA thank you for all the help and advise.
I have a few days on this board and i do like it. I had a slash brainstorm which i loved, but it had a delamination issue, and they did not have any replacement boards, hence a refund was in order. anyway, i like this board, it's not too stiff, which is good. i got the 159w. i have only ridden it in good powder conditions, so we'll see how it performs elsewhere later. it floats well, but i do wish it had a little more rocker in the nose and maybe a touch softer flex. i also agree that at first it is a little on the heavy side, but i don't think i notice it too much now. overall i like it, its not perfect but it is a good board.
I was excited to buy this board as i have transitioned more into a freeride-r over the years. I have ridden 18 years on traditional camber boards and decided to give this a go in the deep Northwest Snow. I am overall not impressed. I have put about 10 days on this baby in everything from 2 feet of powder to icy rain crusts. It does GOOD in deep (8"+) snow and chopped up snow. But i have found everything else to be a struggle with this. The tapered design allows the back leg to wash out all the time and the tail is WAY stiffer than the nose which, unless its soft powder, will slap you around a bit. I may have oversized the board a bit, but i think this will now be my powder board. Deffinately NOT an all around shredder type board and overall feels heavy. Carving is just okay. Nothing compared to a traditional camber board which has that predictable feel to it.
Really fun board which is a blast on groomers and in the off-piste. A quick turner that is really fast and super stable in high speed. Very easy to ride and pops nicely out of turns. If pushed hard it is really rewarding but you can at the same time cruise around with little effort. The setback, directional shape and quite stiff tail allows it to float well in pow and the traditional camber plus torsional stiffness gives you grip and control in steep terrain and on harder snow. Highly recommended.
