A Breakdown Of How Well The Burton Ballast Gore-Tex Pant Works Review by The Good Ride

The Burton Gore-Tex Ballast Pant is a 2 layer Gore-Tex pant that seams to be constructed with a very durable face fabric. This was a size medium which was correct for my specs, however there is a lot of articulation in the knee and it felt very slim in that are which I do not prefer. These pants are a great price point, especially when considering the warranty. Also, they come in short and tall sizes to accommodate most people. These are James personal pants so I am sure there will be an in depth “on snow” review.

James’ Take
The Burton Gore-Tex Ballast Pant offers up some strong waterproofing and good breathability at a very reasonable price for those that see a lot of wet snow to rain.

Fit
The Burton Ballast Gore Pant fits me well. It’s not quite a regular fit and runs more on the tight side of what most would call a regular fit. There is still room for layering and it is a very flattering fit. Burton just knows how to make you look better than you do when it comes to pants. If you have really big thighs these might not be the call though.
Construction
For this price, you would think that they might skip some steps and yeah, they didn’t give it the best of the best when it comes to construction, but man it really is put together well for this price point. You have 4 pockets, great venting and some cool features like the ability to get the back cuff up off the ground when hiking or walking through a lot of pavement before getting to the lift.
Insulation/Warmth
None. Even for a shell, it’s not that warm. You get this to block water and wind. It does that incredibly well though.
Waterproofing
Gore-Tex is unpublished when it comes to company specs but most say it’s close to 30k which is pretty bomb proof. If you make sure the outer layer’s treatment is kept up you should be able to keep even a downpour of rain out.
Breathability
Pretty breathable and it felt like a bit less than 3 layer pants in this realm did a little better it still does a great job. The continuous vent from knee to knee really regulates heat if you feel the pant isn’t doing enough. This would be my choice for a very warm day just as much as I would choose it for a wet day.
Packability
Very light and easily packable. The Burton Gore-Tex Ballast Pant fits in a bag almost like it’s super techy 3 layer Gore-Tex pants.
Overall
This is a great pant for the money. It offers up a flattering fit for most, has great waterproofing/breathability and with the right layering underneath can handle just about any kind of weather.
