How This Review Happened: I borrowed this for an extended demo and sent it back.

Size: Medium
Days: 5+
Conditions: A wide variety of spring conditions.
Riders: James (Size 9, 5’10”, 185-190lbs)

How It Was Tested

I rode these several days in a lot of different conditions and then put them in a sampler to truly see how they compare against similar bindings.

Weight

Highback Flex

The Nitro Team Pro has a moderately easy twist and a little give when pulling straight back. It’s got a lot of padding as well to minimize calf bite and integrate easily with your boots. It’s pretty medium, bordering on medium/stiff.

Flex Underfoot

There is good but not a full-on super flexy happening underfoot compared to many mini-discs out there. It’s not dead, though. That hard plastic does stiffen it up a little bit.

Turn Initiation/Response

The Nitro Team Pro is pretty responsive if you flip the ankle straps around. When you do, it’s almost there with the Phantom and can power most boards out there. If you flip it the other way it’s a more mellow mtn freestyle to park kind of binding. I love the duality.

Shock Absorption

You have those airbags, and they make for great shock absorption. You can land flat, and it’s not going to suck as much as it can.

Dampness

The Nitro Team Pro has a semi-soft plastic that isn’t as damp as the Phantom or Phantom +, but it does well enough to absorb chatter on uneven days.

Boot Support

When you flip/switch the ankle straps to the more supportive side, there is really great boot support that is great when you are off-piste. When you flip it back, you have much more freedom of movement/tweakability for park/mtn freestyle riding. It’s very supportive. It was wider and more supportive than the Team’s ankle strap, and I liked it much better.

Toe straps grip well to the boot.

Ratchets

Nothing to complain about these ratchets.

Adjustability

I love brands like Nitro that care about boot-to-binding adjustability. Being able to slide in/out the gas pedal and Heel Loop makes sure your boot will be centered. If you are centered in the binding, you can turn the disc sideways and slide from tip to tail to get your proper stance width. I can’t tell you how many people didn’t like their bindings until they were adjusted properly to match their boot’s footprint, so don’t discount this advantage Nitro gives you.

Mini Discs don’t work with setback inserts (40mm vs. 20mm) for pow days. That is the one drawback of the Nitro Team Pro’s. I can’t recommend them to riders that have setback inserts, and many brands have them these days.

Everything else is pretty much toolless and very easy to adjust on snow.

Conclusion

So, the Nitro Team Pro was great a few years back when we tried it and it still is in 2024. The Asymmetrical ankle strap that offers two types of response is a really cool feature, and this is a very recommendable binding. I’d pick this over the Phantom and Team for sure.
