How This Review Happened:  We borrowed this for an extended demo and then returned it.

Size: 156
Days: 10+
Conditions:  Pretty good mid-winter snow ranging from hard groomers to pretty good to a bit uneven Groomers.  We had really deep powder up to 4+ feet in some areas and some great slackountry runs at our local mountain thanks to the Drift Boards.
Riders: James (Size 9, 5’10” 185-195lbs), Peter (Size 8, 5’11” 185lbs), Grant (Size 11 6’ 160lbs) and a few other guys I rode with.
Boots: Adidas Tactical ADV,
Insoles: Sandsole Custom Insoles
Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Strata, Union Falcor,  Salomon Highlander (review coming soon)
Set Up: For the size 163 Korua Stealth– 22″ and 22.5” on Reference stance 18 front -6 back.  For the Size 156 Korua Stealth 22″ wide  27 front +6 back. 22″ wide 21 front 0 back, 22″ wide 27 front +9 back.  22″ wide 21 front -6 back.

Set Up: 22” 21 front -6 back Close to Reference and Set all the way back.  22” 15 front -15 back Centered.

Approximate Weight: Feels on the heavy side of normal but sturdy. On snow, we didn’t feel the weight though.

Flex/Buttering:  Pretty stiff and not too easy to butter off the tail.  You really have to work for it.

Sizing: The 163 felt like way too much board but the 156 felt just right for my specs as well as Grants and Peter’s.  It’s strange how this board fit all of our different boot sizes so well.

On Snow Feel: The Korua Stealth is pretty aggressive and it’s mostly camber profile with just a bit of rocker in the nose is not that forgiving.

Edge Hold: Really solid edge hold and there seems to be some magic in that sidecut that lets this board hold on better than most traditional sidecuts that it seems to be like.

Turn Initiation: It’s not super fast for my boot size but it never felt slow either.  It felt pretty mediumish on groomers and a little faster/easier in powder.

Turning Experience: Korua boards are all about the turn and the Stealth is no exception.  We all personally really got off riding the Dart and Pencil with a positive rear foot and driving hard off the front foot and that feeling really tickled our taint.  While the Stealth didn’t quite have that magic it did a great job carving off the front or back foot without being anywhere close to boring.  In fact it really shined against any non-Korua board we tried it against so it’s not a slouch by any means.

Carving: Just jams on a carve and if you are more into carving with lots of weight on your back foot then this will do nicely.

Skidded Turns:  None of Korua boards are easy to skid turns and they like a more technical rider.

Powder:  We got the Korua Stealth in about 4 feet of snow and it was hanging with some of our favorite powder boards.  Yes, they had an easier float and we could have used a little faster base to get us out of some massively deep flat spots at the bottom of some runs but overall The Korua Stealth absolutely jammed in the deep deep. It seems like it’s because of that super wide big ass nose, the wide waist, 3.1 CM of taper, set all the way back with a 22″ stance width has an 11.75″ difference between nose and tail and a 5.875″ set back on board. That’s massively back on board compared to most companies and pretty far back for Korua. This could easily be a dedicated powder board and it jammed in the tits deep powder we had.  The bonus with the Korua Stealth is that you don’t have to put this away when the powder is gone and you still have an amazing groomer carver. Speed: It’s not quite a bomber like the Pencil but man it’s fast for a 156. Sometimes boards with this much taper can become a little off at really high speeds but not these boards.  You don’t have that squirrely feel where the tail feels too small and the nose feels like it’s doing more work when you straight line.  This tracks well at high speed.

Uneven Terrain: The Korua Stealth is a pretty stiff board but it can hang in uneven snow

Switch:  doable but not ideal by any means.

Jumps: The Korua Stealth doesn’t have as much tail as the Tranny Finder but when set more forward stance wise it does pretty well and it isn’t as bad and it has enough tail to not make the landings feel weird.   It’s got lots of pop so it’s pretty ollie friendly as well.

Jibbing: Hit a mellow box or two but that was about all I wanted to do with this thing.

Pipe: Didn’t ride any pipe with this guy.

So, all in all, the Korua Stealth is one of those boards that works really well just about any kind of rider and is a fun back or front foot carver on groomers and rivals many dedicated powder boards in the really deep stuff.  Getting on the 156, that matched my specs better, really changed the way I felt about this ride. While the Pencil and Dart really lit up a front foot driving carve and blew us away the Stealth could work better with more riding styles, stance angles for every type of rider and provide almost as fun of a turn as some of our favorites.  So if you like your back foot at 0 or -3 or something just slightly duck and like to put lots of weight on the back foot when you turn the Stealth will be the better call.
