How The Amplid Souly Grail Was Tested:

Amplid Souly Grail How It Was TesedI borrowed this for an extended demo, but I liked it so much I asked to keep it.
Size: 157 (2024) & 162 (2026)
Days: 15+ I had many days on the 157 from 2024 and 2 days with the 162
Conditions: Varied Spring Snow, Good groomers, uneven snow, ok pow with a block of snowment under it, and pretty good pow
Riders: James (Size 9, 5’10”, 185-190lbs)

Approximate Weight

The Amplid Souly Grail 24-25 feels pretty normal, but the 26 version feels a little lighter, which borders on being ultra light.

(We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores, there is no consistency in a board’s weight)

Sizing

Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these boards. You can of course, go bigger or smaller depending on your riding style and boot’s footprint, but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag.
153: 8-9
157: 9-10
162: 10-11

For weight, I would stay close to the brand recommendations, but if it comes down to boot size or weight, I would make sure it fits your boot first. What is cool about Amplid is that its construction and dampening can accommodate a heavier rider, whereas some brands can’t.

Shape & Setback

The Amplid Souly Grail is tapered and directional but doesn’t feel that way. If you rode this on groomers, you wouldn’t guess it has 6mm of taper. That isn’t a lot, but I’ve ridden many boards with 6mm of taper that can feel washy. The shape hasn’t changed since I’ve first reviewed it.

Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level

The Amplid Souly Grail has camber from pretty much the tail to just a little before the nose starts. Then it has lifted sides that don’t come into the camber profile at all, so it doesn’t wash with too much front foot pressure. The camber profile has stayed the same from 2024 to 2026.

Flex Personality

You have a medium flex that doesn’t seem to mellow out at the tip/tail, and it might even be a touch stiffer at the ends. The Amplid Souly Grail isn’t easy to butter for average riders, but it pops really hard on an ollie. I love how dynamic this flex is for how damp it is. The 2026 model feels a little lighter/more poppy even in a 162 vs. the 2024 model in a 157. It’s a nice improvement.

Uneven Snow

This is what really makes the Amplid Souly Grail shine as a board. It has incredible vibration/chatter absorption. It can handle hard, microbumpy snow just as well as soft, uneven snow. I don’t think I’ve ridden a board this damp with this kind of flex. I was worried that the new Antiphase tech that seems to make the board lighter would make it more chattery and I didn’t notice much difference which is really great.

Edge Hold

There isn’t any special disruption in the sidecut, but it holds an edge well if the snow gets hard. It’s not an ice specialist, but the edge stays super quiet in any kind of snow, so it does better than you would think.

Turning & Carving

Even though the 162 is too wide for my size nine feet to turn quickly, it was doable in all but the messiest conditions. I’ve had better boards and tighter tree lines, but it’s not bad for being this centered on board and for having this width relative to my size nines.

When I got this on edge and really committed to a turn, it was just like the older model, which is really good. It felt like the older board, just a little lighter, and it was fun to lay into harder turns with the bigger 162 versus the 157. Front-foot and center-weighted turns are the best, but back-foot-weighted turns are doable. I got a lot more spring out of the turn than I thought I would from this mellow camber.

The Amplid Souly Grail has a pretty balanced turning radius that allows you to do a little bit of everything well. Even circle carves are doable, and so are across-the-groomer carves down the line; longer, drawn-out high-speed S turns are pretty great too. I’d say it shines the most with medium radius turns though.

Speed/Base Glide

The base glide is easy but not effortless like some I’ve tried. Still, if it’s waxed well, you have pretty easy glide. You can do a lot worse.

Powder

I didn’t get the 62 in powder but It should float a little better than the 57 I tried. The 162 is -4″ back at 23.25″ wide which is a little wider but pretty close to the 157. I wish the 157 and 162 had a narrower stance width. It makes neither board a really good low angle floater unless you have a really taint tearing wide stance or long legs.

Final Thoughts

So overall, the Amplid Souly Grail isn’t the best for low-angle pow riding, but it has next-level damping, great pop, and is a very special carver. It’s the kind of board I wanted to own and ride a lot.
