Summary

The ThirtyTwo TM-3XD have excellent construction, flex retention and are exactly what I was looking for except for the fact they are super narrow.

ThirtyTwo TM-3XD 2022 Review by The Good Ride

Turn Ons/Swipe Right: Incredibly well built, great heel hold for traditional lace, smooth response, great shock absorption and excellent flex retention.
Turn Offs/Swipe Left: Run pretty narrow.

ThirtyTwo TM-3XD Snowboard Boot Review: How It Rides And Who It Is For

Fit

The ThirtyTwo TM-3XD has a narrow fit. I thought with a little heat molding it would fit me better but it still was too narrow for my size E width feet. I would say these are best for a size D width and below. This was the deal breaker for me as they hurt my heels and numbed my toes. Really wanted these boots to work for me and I wish they made a wide. If they did these would be my new best friends. They did fit true length wise for my size 9 boots.

Flex/ Flex Retention/Construction

The ThirtyTwo TM-3XD is medium to almost medium stiff when you add the stiffening inserts in. It feels a little stiffer than they say in the rating and keeps its flex for a long time. I have 2 friends that ride 100+ days a year that own these boots and they held up for two seasons for them. The construction is excellent, and it will be hard to really wear out the outer shell.

Response

You get a nice smooth medium to medium/fast response out of the ThirtyTwo TM-3XD and they can power most boards with a good pair of bindings.

Adjustability/Heel Hold

Grips hard around the heel for a boot with this design. Most boots that hold this well usually have a second BOA system around the ankle or something else to help with hold. The ThirtyTwo TM-3XD has very aggressive J-Bars that really get a hold of your ankle. The traditional lacing system is excellent for adjustability. You even have this little plastic thing around the laces after the ankle to help separate the upper and lower lacing without having to tie a little knot there. Very cool.

Shock Absorption

There is a nice cushy sole with the ThirtyTwo TM-3XD and it is definitely on the upper end. I really like the feel of it throughout. It’s not too thick though so it doesn’t hinder board feel too much.

On & Off

Traditional lacing gets a bad rep when it comes to on and off ease. I find it’s not much slower than a Double BOA on but it is a little slower off.

Traction

The ThirtyTwo TM-3XD has excellent traction and rubber everywhere there is contact with the ground/snow. This really helps prevent awkward disco splits in an icy lift line and it’s great to hike with.

Reduced Footprint

Very well reduced with the ThirtyTwo TM-3XD and in comparison to my Burton Kendo’s (very reduced) these are right there. I didn’t even have to adjust my binding straps.

Conclusion

So if you have a narrower foot the ThirtyTwo TM-3 XD is going to be a hard boot to beat if you love adjustability, flex retention and durability. My only complaint is they don’t make this in a wide.

Really really great boots!

These boots are really really good and I can agree with the review apart from 2 things.
I'm also an E width in boots and I found these to be perfect. I also own TM-2s and they are narrower in the toe box compared to my TM-3XD. The TM-3XD fit my E width perfect in the toe box (widest point of my feet). The TM-2s tend to give me numb toes.
The second thing I can't agree with is the footprint reduction. Compared to my TM-2s these are 6mm longer in footprint. Not a huge deal breaker but still. However they are still more reduced compared to other brands like Burton, Salomon, Nitro but not Adidas.
Overall I love these boots and they are my favourite so far. Great flex great heel hold and great feel. Would absolutely reccommend!
