Positives

  • Excellent Flex Retention
  • Excellent Shock Absorption
  • Good Board Feel For this Much Shock Absorption
  • Medium-Wide Fit
  • Great Upper / Lower Adjustability
  • Very Little Pack Out Around The Feet

Negatives

  • Toe Box Not As Durable
  • Runs Bulky Around The Ankle
  • Toe Box Runs Narrow

Summary

The Nitro Team BOA doesn't have the most durable toe box, and it also runs a bit narrow. It also has a bulky ankle area that doesn't fit as well as the TLS. However, it has excellent shock absorption, excellent flex retention, a medium-wide fit, and it's a boot that has great response, and it's a boot that served me incredibly well for a whole season. While I'm curious about the Select TLS and El Mejor with their wider more durable toe box this is an excellent boot that I recommend a lot.

Weight

With the factory insole in these are 2 pounds seven ounces. So not super heavy, but not super light either.

Fit / Liner

Nitro Team BOA Liner Better

Length

I found that the Nitro Team BOS fit my size nine E boots incredibly well. First off, lengthwise, these are the perfect fit. And what I love about this liner is it’s not very thick in the heel and toe, and it might be just a touch small for a true size nine boot in a size nine, just a few millimeters. So as this pack out, it starts to feel really good, where my toes barely touch in the front and barely don’t touch on a forward lean. It feels great.

One thing I like about this liner is that it’s really thick up top. And once you get down into the bottom here, it’s not as thick, and it doesn’t pack out that much. So it holds really well. It’s also very heat moldable and very comfortable. I also love that they have Velcro here now. It just makes the fit so much better than the old liner on the TLS.

Width

Nitro Team Toe Box vs. Select
Nitro Team Toe Box vs. Select

Then, on top of that, the width is really good. Even though I don’t like this narrow toe box. And I found the select to have a much wider toe box, which I prefer a lot more, but I was really surprised at how well it fit my E-width foot. These run medium to medium wide. So if you’re like a D to an E, these are going to be great. Now if you’re a double E you need to look to, the wide version of these. And I’m glad they make a wide. They’re just so damn hard to find in 2026. Hopefully, that will change in 2027.

Ankle Area

Nitro Team BOA Ankle Area
Nitro Team BOA Ankle Area

There is one difference: you can see it right here in the center area with the BOA, which is a little more bulky than the TLS. I also noticed I had to readjust my Union Force bindings and move them up one hole for this to fit evenly around the ankle. With the BOA, there’s just more bulk here; I prefer the TLS. I just like that the fit around the ankle is a little better, but I like this lacing right in the middle. That creates a better forward flex, and that’s why I chose BOA this time.

Insole

Now this insole, it isn’t bad. I was quite surprised at the cush feel that you get with this. I always switch out to get better shock absorption and a better feel underfoot with my footprint. King Foam, Orthotic Elite insoles, or my Game Changers Sport Pro Heat moldable insoles, which mold to my arch. I don’t have a very high arch, but I like that they feel better, and after extensive testing, those are the insoles that I chose. Although it’s not that bad for being a factory insole for sure.

Adjustability/Lacing

Nitro Team BOA Lacing

So getting the Nitro Team BOA on is a slow process. Because when you pop this BOA, it loosens up a lot, and when you’re getting in, you have to do a lot of twisting. But getting out is really easy.

Nitro Team BOA Lacing Harness

It’s just two pops and then getting the lacing harness out of here. You take this lacing right here, and you do a crossover, and then pull.

Nitro Team BOA Liner Velcro

Now that you have the Velcro, it sometimes gets in the way a little. But I love having it. And it’s a lot easier for the shops to repair the upper because everything’s on the outside. I can also run traditional laces through them if I want to wait to get them repaired, as long as they’re not too thick. And then the bottom is pretty easy to repair, too, but not as easy as the top. That’s a lot better than a lot of BOA’s out there, and I really like to see that.

I personally find that the TLS lacing system, while it gets a little tangled and is a little messier than BOA, is much faster on and off because it is just a pull and then a pop out.

Some people have had trouble with this lacing system coming loose, but you just have to pull it in, tighten it, and pull this top a little tighter than you might think. It can also feel a bit loose if you don’t get them in those tongues properly. So it can be a little frustrating. And if you upgrade to something like the Select or the El Mejor, you get a much grippier TLS system that grips much better than this TLS lacing system, but I think all are very good.

Flex & Response

Nitro Team BOA Flex
Nitro Team BOA Flex

Now let’s talk flex here. This is definitely medium-stiff in flex, and on the hill, it’s more medium, bordering on medium-fast. In terms of responsiveness, I don’t feel it’s the most responsive boot for its flex, but I really like it, and I’ve never felt I needed more or wanted less.

Nitro Team BOA Response

And I just love the way this initiates a turn and keeps you engaged throughout. It has a touch of foreign lean, which I love because I have even featured calves, and I can’t get much forward lean out of my bindings. They bite my calves if I do, and it feels uncomfortable. So having this feels great.

Flex Retention / Durability

Nitro Team BOA Flex Retention Articulation Point
Nitro Team BOA Flex Retention Articulation Point

And then the flex retention is exceptional because you have this articulation point right here, basically like neoprene, that allows easy forward flex.

Nitro Team BOA Flex Retention Spine
Nitro Team BOA Flex Retention Spine

And then you have this spine that runs all the way up the back. That is a hard plastic. It never breaks down. And it’s the same exact thing as the TLS was last year. No changes there.

Nitro Team BOA Durability In Toe
Nitro Team BOA Durability In Toe

The only thing I’d like to see in terms of durability is rubber or plastic around this toe area, to keep it from getting these nicks and cuts that often happen. Some people have complained that this area breaks down too easily and opens up. But it’s held up well in a wide variety of bindings. I haven’t seen much wear on the sides, and you can see how well this boot has held up. It looks really good for how long I’ve been using it, and this is going to be the same.

Shock Absorption / Board Feel

Nitro Team BOA Shock Absorption
Nitro Team BOA Shock Absorption

Now, when it comes to shock absorption, this is incredible. This airbag here just gives you such a cushy ride. Compared to boots like the Select and the El Mejor, this has a little more going on in the heel. But as you get out towards the front of the foot, the El Mejor and the Select seem to have a touch more shock absorption.

But what I like about this boot is that, even though it has a ton of shock absorption, it doesn’t feel soft, pillowy, unresponsive, or squishy. It still has a decent board. Feel, you don’t feel as disconnected from the binding as a lot of boots with a ton of shock absorption have. So they’ve done a great job of mitigating that. Feel that you get with really shock absorbent boots, but if you’re somebody who likes board, feel there are better boots out there for sure.

Traction

Nitro Team BOA Traction
Nitro Team BOA Traction

When it comes to traction, this Vibram outsole is incredible. There is such good traction here, and this sole lasts forever. You can do a lot of hiking with this. You can walk through long parking lots, and this traction holds up. Look at this TLS here. How long has it been held up? It’s incredible.

Footprint vs. Warmth

I found it to be 29.6cm long, which isn’t bad. In terms of warmth, I felt these boots were pretty warm. They’re not the warmest of warm, but they’re not bad either. And I think you could do a lot worse.

Final Thoughts

Nitro Team BOA Pow Turns
Nitro Team BOA Pow Turns

So overall, I really enjoy the Nitro Team. I do wish it had a wider toe box like the select and the El Mejor I do wish it had less bulk over the front here, but I love this continuous flex throughout the tongue that my TLS does not have. With this larger gap between laces. And these are incredible boots. They don’t have a ton of bells and whistles, like the Team Pro, which has an insert in the front, a power strap, and all that. But it gets busy, and it’s not necessary for everyone.

So if you just want an easy plug-and-play ride every day, boot as I do, this Team BOA, or the Team TLS, or the Team Lace, for they’re all amazing choices. It just comes down to personal preference; even this uneven tongue flex never truly bothered me. And it wasn’t a deal breaker for riding this all season. I just like this tongue flex a little bit better. And I’m willing to put up with a little bulkier area around the ankle to get that. So there you have it. Hope it helps.
