Korua Dart 2020 - 2019 Review by The Good Ride
The Korua Dart, for us, is a real tossup between the Pencil 164. If you like the idea of the Pencil but want a mellower ride, shorter length, a little bit more setback on board, and a softer tail you have the Dart. It has similar magic you get from the Pencil in a turn but doesn’t feel as hard-charging. Like the Pencil, it floats just about as well as it turns.
The 2020 Korua Dart is the same as the 2019 so this review still stands.

How This Review Happened: We spent our precious Good Ride dollars to buy this for you, good readers and we are glad we did.
Days: 15+ and can’t stop riding it.
Conditions: Lot’s of good groomers with fun snow to ride on and powder ranging from 1′ to 4′ deep feet and some short off-piste runs thanks to my Drift Boards.
Riders: James (Size 9, 5’10” 185-195lbs), Peter (5’11” size 8.5 boot 175lbs) and Grant (Size 11 6’ 160lbs)

Set Up: 21.75 wide 39 front +12 back, 21.5″ wide 36 front and +9 back. 22” wide 21 front -3 back set all the way back. 22″ wide 21 front 0 back close to the reference. 22″ wide 27 front +9 back all the way forward.
Approximate Weight: Feels on the heavy side of normal but nothing bad for the overall surface area. This is pretty wide for its length.
Flex/Buttering: The Korua Dart was one of those boards that you don’t buy for buttering because it has a medium stiff flex. It’s a little softer than most Korua boards though. You can butter off the tail well enough and it’s flex allows a little more twist to it and makes it really fun to carve.
Sizing: So if you look at the specs you wouldn’t think that Peter and I with 8.5 and 9 boots would have as much as fun as Grant with size 11 boots but we all felt it fit us really well. Maybe it’s all the taper in the tail but Peter and I had no problem throwing around the Korua Dart. I think the sizing recommendations seem accurate on the site so reference that if you want to know what board works best for you. Now one thing to mention is the taper varies from size to size a good bit so the personality we are describing with the 156 might not be 100% the same but it should be close.
On Snow Feel: Almost completely locked in but not hookey like some boards with this much taper can be. It tracks well and is pretty much for an advanced to an expert rider that loves turning and powder. If you surf it’s like being on a little shorter but pretty wide performance groveler that can bash lips and really drive well on the front foot.
Edge Hold: There is very solid and competent grip with the Korua Dart and it worked well in the hard patches we encountered. If you ride in hard to icy snow I’m not sure if the Dart is the call but it holds really well for a sidecut without any disruption. Korua does edge hold very well and it never has grabbed in softer snow.
Turn Initiation: This is medium bordering on medium fast for Peter and I and that surprised us with the nose and tail width. If you are like Grant with a size 11 boot it will turn med/fast. In powder, it went where we all needed it very quickly and we all felt like we were steering much more on the tail making it much faster.
Turning Experience/Carving: The Korua Dart was glorious to turn and It really shines if you drive hard off the front foot and set it up with positive stance angles. It still worked with us when we were 0 to slightly duck on the back foot but all that went positive on the back foot liked it much better. This isn’t in the video’s above but the more I went directional with my stance angles the more the turning pleasure increased and I found myself setting this up more and more positive. It likes the weight on the front foot but the more positive you go the more you can start to bring back foot weight into the ride without it washing out. This and the Pencil are two of our favorite boards to turn in Korua’s line. Both have very similar specs on paper but both interact differently on snow. The 156 Dart, in many ways, is comparable to the 164 Pencil. That being said because it rides 8cm shorter, sits a little further back on board and has a softer tail it feels pretty different on a turn. The Pencil feels longer, faster and more powerful. The Dart can still make powerful front foot driving turns but also is easier to mellow it out, slash, and it feels like it can make quicker tighter turns. The Dart also more fun if you are in a mellow mood where the Pencil likes going harder better. The spring out of the turn and the drive you get from turn to turn just makes this a pleasure when it comes to carving up groomers. This board was just glorious to carve and even though it has rocker in the nose it still carves better than many full camber boards we have ridden. Now if you really like to drive your turns hard on the back foot or aren’t positive stance wise on the back foot the Korua Stealth 156 might be the better call.
Skidded Turns: Not for the skidder or intermediate rider.
Powder and Peter: The Korua Dart could be a dedicated powder board if you could resist not taking it out on groomers. There is over 3cm of taper to a swallowtail that sinks soo easy which makes the nose float even easier, a super wide floaty nose with early rise rocker and when setting all the way back at 21.5″ it has a massive difference between nose and tail of 15.25″ (taken from the very end of the tail and not the where the swallowtail starts) giving it a 7.625″ setback on board from center. Now if you measured this from V of the Swallow Tail it is a 23.25″ difference between nose and tail making it 11.625″ back from center. That isn’t super accurate but with all that tail cut out, it has a feel of somewhere in between 7.625″ and 11.625″ back…..aka really far back on the tail and it floats like a champ in the deepest of deep. The tail on groomers is well felt but in powder feels almost like it’s non-existent. It’s one of the few boards that I prefer riding further forward in the deep stuff so I can feel more tail. Weirdly enough it still feels like I’m far from even trying to keep the board afloat. So this could easily be your powder board and it borders on being just as good as some of our favorite powder boards. Our one personal complaint is while the base is pretty fast for this price point we wouldn’t mind a faster base, like on the Plus Models, for better glide in powder but the one indisputable fact is this floats about as well as it carves. It’s rare to see these two things go together. If you want more size, tail and downhill drive the Pencil is the call but if you like a more shorter slashy ride the Dart is. Both are super fun so it’s all about personal preference. If you haven’t heard enough already, here is our take after more time on Powder and Peter’s take over some liquor and food.
Speed: These Korua Classic boards like the Dart have a lot of chatter absorption and even though this isn’t the best bomber in their line this is by no means afraid of a straight line.
Uneven Terrain: This isn’t our first choice for hammering through bumps but in some uneven snow moments or bumpy hard groomers it did really well. Thanks to the narrower tail the wider waist and nose didn’t bother us as much as you would think weaving in and out of bumps or hammering over chunder. We felt the longer 164 Pencil with the solid tail did a better job hammering through tracked snow but the Korua Dart isn’t bad at all
With the Korua Dart, the rest doesn’t matter as much. You can carve a pipe wall and it’s got good pop but it’s not the best ride for getting big Air in Kora’s line but it does work on the small to medium side. Not so great switch. All in all, it’s one of those rare boards that can carve amazingly well on groomers without sacrificing any float in powder and fit a wide variety of boot sizes without it being that weird. If you surf and want more of a really good but technical performance groveler feel on snow here you go.

I want to start off by thanking the Good Ride for their review and being responsible for me finding the Korua Dart. The Good Ride review is 100% spot on.
I was recently in the market for a 5 star carver that was also good in powder. I hold some weight and was a bit apprehensive about going down to a 156 from the 160+ boards that I’m used to riding. All I can say is that this doard opened up a whole new dimension in my 20+ years of snowboarding. I’m no spring chicken anymore and this board makes riding an absolute pleasure. I holds a single track carve like a European in a neon onesie in hard boots. It can also make quick and nimble turns and holds together well at high speed.
My first day of riding on this deck was in about 8 inches of fresh pow, which was effortless. The tapered swallow tail sinks in the pow and pushes the fat nose up making the ride easy without tiring you out. The conditions later turned into a ridden out mess in the afternoon which this board absolutely destroyed. No issues in this type of snow. On the second day of riding I got to experience this owesone board on groomers. This is where it really excelled. The carving felt like effortless gliding. The back end never washed out and there was no chatter. The board has plenty of pop and can really take a deep power carve. I never felt unstable or like I reached the limit of what this board can do.

Was ready to pull the trigger on different Korua and then the Dart showed up on their site. I took a total leap of faith on the Dart with no reviews or previous info available. First of all, it arrived to me direct from Germany to the East Coast in less then 4 days (*amazing*). Once I took my first run on it, I knew I had made the right choice. Amazing on both groomers and powder. Carves like a champ. The spring from the camber is amazing coming out of turns. As far as what The Goodride has to say about the Dart; in the words of Han Solo, "It's true. All of it!"
