Positives
- Playful but Stable
- Good Grip
- Consistent Feel Underfoot In All Conditions
Negatives
- Has More Box Scratcher Personality vs. Box Knife
Summary
The Lib Tech Legitimizer is a combination of the old Box Scratcher and the Box Knife. The Legitimizer has more of the Box Scratcher shape and personality but with the Box Knife Camber. It’s easy to butter, fun to ride, and works well as an in-and-out-of-the-park mountain freestyle snowboard with decent edge grip and a durable but not easy gliding base. The 2026 model didn't change vs. the 2025 model I rode so this review is 100% relevant.Where To Buy

Construction / Durability / Weight
The Lib Tech Legitimizer is a pretty normal weight for this surface area. (We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores, there is no consistency in a board’s weight)
The board is pretty durable and while the topsheet can get scuffing it is only superficial. The UHMW sidewalls are durable and the edges turn inside the board at the end of the effective edge. Then the same or very similar UHMW material runs throughout most of the nose/tail instead of wood and steel. In most situations it makes it more durable. Overall, this is a pretty reliable, well built board that will last a long time.
Sizing

The 157 Lib Tech Legitimizer felt pretty good overall for my specs even though it’s a good bit wider 157 Box Knife vs. 157 Legitimizer. The Box Knife Turned faster but the Legitimizer wasn’t slow for my boot size / weight / Height listed above either.
All Lib Tech Legitimizer Sizes / Sizing
Lib Tech is pretty loose with recommended weight and they don’t recommend boot sizes at all which is pretty old school and can lead to buying the wrong size board.
Sizing is all about balancing what fits your boot size (most important), weight (second most important) and height (third most important) for how you like to ride. Size down for more control and size up for more speed/stability/carving power. Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these boards.
Legitimizer Sizing |
|||||
Size (cm) | Nose / Tail | Waist | Weight | Good Ride | Good Ride |
Width (cm) | Width (cm) | Range | Weight Rec’s | Boot Size | |
(lbs / kg) | In Lbs | US | |||
147 | 29 / 29 | 25.1 | 85+ / 40+ | 100-165 | 7.5-8.5 |
151 | 29.2 / 29.2 | 25.2 | 95+ / 45+ | 110-175 | 8-9 |
154 | 29.4 / 29.4 | 25.3 | 110+ / 50+ | 120-185 | 8.5-9.5 |
157 | 29.6 / 29.6 | 25.5 | 120+ / 55+ | 130-200 | 9-10 |
153W | 30.3 / 30.3 | 26.2 | 110+ / 50+ | 110-180 | 10-11 |
156W | 30.6 / 30.6 | 26.5 | 130+ / 60+ | 130-210 | 11-12 |
If it comes down to boot size or weight, make sure it fits your boot first and then your weight a close second.
A Detailed Breakdown Of How The Lib Tech Legitimizer Rides
Shape

The Lib Tech Legitimizer has a true twin shape that is meant to be ridden centered and duck. It’s a board you set up once and leave it.
Camber/On Snow Feel

There is camber underfoot transitioning into rocker a decent amount before the nose and tail. the Lib Tech Legitimizer is much more forgiving / easy to ride vs. many other C3 boards and have full camber from tip to tail. Intermediates will find it forgiving / easy to skid a turn, while advanced riders can push it without getting bored. It tracks well one-footing (of course it does…It’s Burtner’s board) and it flat bases easy. It’s a very consistent all conditions ride.
Edge Hold

Mellow Magne-Traction along the sidecut gives the Lib Tech Legitimizer pretty solid grip without being too grabby. I did have to detune the edges on my board which was a production model so you might have to do this as well if the edges feel grabby and don’t transition well edge to edge.
Flex Personality

The Lib Tech Legitimizer has a medium-to-medium-soft flex overall, with more stiffness between the feet and a softer nose and tail for easy butters. The poppy, energetic flex is ollies well / easy for average riders.

It’s really easy to butter in the nose / tail and if you like to butter this is a good choice.

While I liked the Box Knife better for tracking into the little side hits my somewhat old and rather broken body is comfortable with these days, the Legitimizer wasn’t bad either. Overall, It’s not a bad board for getting air.
Uneven Snow
In uneven snow, the Lib Tech Legitimizer feels a little soft and bucky but it’s predictable and very easy to get used to. It’s no chunder buster but it’s good for this kind of flex personality.
Speed
While the Lib Tech Legitimizer handles moderate speed fine, it’s not designed for high-speed bombing. Its true strength is playing round on the mountain, buttering, making a turn or two and then hitting side hits rather than straight-lining steep runs. There are many twins out there that are better for going fast while riding centered.
Base Glide

The Lib Tech Legitimizer has a quasi-extruded base that’s durable and low-maintenance. It’s reliable in all conditions, even if you skip a wax, though dedicated waxers may want something faster. The base of this production model arrived dry and not fully ready for prime time. It would really benefit from a base grind.
Turning/Carving

Turn initiation on the Lib Tech Legitimizer is smooth and it went where I needed it. I liked the quicker turn initiation of the old Box Knife better but this isn’t bad at all in tight spots either.
When I got this on edge and committed to a turn there was decent spring out of the turn but it’s soft for harder carving and it can give up on you if you really want to push it. It didn’t have as much spring as some boards I tried with similar camber and easy pop on an ollie, but it’s not bad for what it is. You don’t get this for turning / carving but it’s good to know its semi-capable if the mood strikes.
The turning radius is pretty balanced and it can make all kinds of turns well but none amazing. That’s all you want from a board like this.
Powder
I didn’t get the Lib Tech Legitimizer in powder during testing, but based on the old Box Knife’s float with a similar camber profile, it should do fine for a centered stance twin.
Switch & Park

As a true twin, the Lib Tech Legitimizer rides switch just as well as it does regular. Its flex will soften over time, making it a strong jib board if you size down. It also works well on small to medium jumps, rails, and boxes. If you don’t dull the edges for jibbing it could be a pretty fun ride in the pipe as well because of that solid grip.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I personally liked the Box Kife better and if you really liked the Box Knife I’m not sure if this is your board. That being said this is a decent compromise between the Box Scratcher and Box Knife. I’d say the Lib Tech Legitimizer is a good choice for those that loved the Box Scratcher’s wider, softer, more jib friendly feel but wanted the camber benefits of the Box Knife in a slightly more stable, wider package. It offers great grip, a consistent ride in all-conditions, and it’s a pretty fun park to mtn freestyle ride.
