Positives

  • Quick Turning
  • Poppy
  • Playful
  • Top Tier Base
  • Edge Hold

Negatives

  • Not Stable at High Speeds
  • Lower Angle Carving

Summary

The Cardiff Women’s Lynx is a quick-turning board with a lot of pop and ollieing capacity. This is great for someone who wants to try a Cardiff but is intimidated by the faster, more straight-line experience that you get from the Goat or Crane.

Sizing

Cardiff Women's Lynx - Sizing
Cardiff Women’s Lynx – Sizing

The 149 has a pretty wide waist for the size at 25cm. I didn’t notice that it impacted my turn initiation at all. That could be because the nose and tail are not super wide as well. I would feel comfortable sizing up for deep powder days.

Shape

Cardiff Women's Lynx - Shape
Cardiff Women’s Lynx – Shape

The Cardiff Women’s Lynx is a tapered directional shape. Only has 5mm of taper so it feels similar to a directional twin. You can see how slight the taper is in the above image for “shape”.

Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level

Cardiff Women's Lynx - Camber
Cardiff Women’s Lynx – Camber

The Cardiff Women’s Lynx has a hybrid camber profile, with what they call 55% camber that goes just past the inserts that turns into early rise in the nose and tail. Alot less camber than the Cardiff Crane or Goat.

Edge Hold

Cardiff Women's Lynx - Edge Hold

Slight disrupted edge that is hard to see by eye. The Cardiff Women’s Lynx has an exceptional edge hold.

Flex Personality

Cardiff Women's Lynx - Flex
Cardiff Women’s Lynx – Flex

The Cardiff Women’s Lynx is rated as medium. It felt on the softer side of a medium flex. This gives the board a nice forgiving pop and an easy buttering tail.

Uneven Snow

I’ve been lucky enough to ride the Cardiff Women’s Lynx in a variation of conditions in the PNW. I have been able to take it from groomed, to uneven surfaces, to powder. I’ve found this board to be really responsive and adaptable to those variable conditions. It stays stable underfoot in tracked out snow. The slight early rise in the nose allows you to maintain your speed and the flex is stiff enough that you feel damp and connected to the ground.

Speed

The Cardiff Women’s Lynx is not a slow board, but it’s also not as fast as other ‘women-sized boards in the Cardiff line, such as the Crane or the Goat. What you lose in the speed category, you make up in the playfulness category, so theres options for every riding style in the Cardiff line.

Base Glide

Cardiff Women's Lynx - Base Glide

This board features Cardiff’s race base, which is a cintered base. It’s going to shine with regular waxing and proper maintenance. These bases are top of the line and about as good as it gets.

Turning Experience/Carving

The Cardiff Women’s Lynx is playful and quick turning, even with the wide waist. I never found this board to be hard to get on edge or chunky. Which sometimes can happen with wider boards. Really smooth through the nose, good pop out of the tail. Perfect board for someone who rides a little bit surfier and likes the freedom and flexibility of a softer board, but really wants to hold in that shorter effective edge and shorter turning radius. I found that this board has some limitations when carving on lower-angle slopes. This board was best in the steeper conditions.

Powder

Cardiff Women's Lynx - Pow Setback
Cardiff Women’s Lynx – Pow Setback

The Cardiff Women’s Lynx has -3” setback from center on board at a 21.6” stance width. That is a pretty wide stance for a women’s board. The 3” setback is good for an all mountain board. Take that setback and incorporate the early rise and you have a board with some great float.

Switch/Jumps/Pipe/Jibs

When it comes tp riding switch this board has a very twin feel that allows you to ride switch with ease. I didn’t get this into the park. However, given the excpetionak edge hold and friendly flex, I think this would be a great halfpipe board. Probably too nice to want to jib with, beat up something a little cheaper.

Final Thoughts

The Cardiff Women’s Lynx is a testament to what happens when a brand wants to put art into a snowboard. It rides easy right out of the gate. It’s friendly, it’s surfy and gives you all the good feels that you get on a powder day without compromising or having to be on your game the entire time.
