Positives

  • Amazing Pow Float
  • Near Excellent Grip
  • Still Has A Fast Base
  • More Pop Than Before

Negatives

  • Very Bucky In Soft Uneven Snow
  • Not A Good Front Foot Weighted Carver
  • Reference Stance is Very Wide

Summary

Because of all the tariffs, the 2026 Cardiff Powgoda comes from a new factory in Canada. It has more dampness in hard, uneven snow, but unfortunately, it has that same bucky/bouncy nature, like a car with bad shocks, in soft, uneven snow. And that's its one main problem. Everything else about this board is exceptional. The way it turns, the way it feels. It grips well; it's a great back-seat carver and groomer, and Turner is better than it was before. And it was a pretty good back then. It has more float than before because of this extra width, so other than soft, uneven snow performance. This is an exceptional board. And it could be right for you.

An In Depth Breakdown of How the Cardiff Powgoda 2026 Rides Review by The Good Ride

How The Cardiff Powgoda Was Tested

Cardiff Powgoda - How It Was Tested
Cardiff Powgoda – How It Was Tested

So I rode the Cardiff Powgoda in a wide variety of conditions. Even got a little powder. But we had a horrible year this year. Our powder days were few and far between. They got tracked up quickly and were never that deep, so I didn’t get to stress-test it as I did past Powgodas, which is a shame.

But I know those old ones really well, so I have a good enough idea to put out an in-depth review, and you can check out some of the boards I compared this against on Patreon. But I got this in hard, uneven snow, okay powder, decent groomers, and firm but edgeable, fast, fun groomers as well.

I borrowed it for an extended demo and sent it back.

Size: 158
Days: 4
Conditions: Hard Snow, Firm, almost frozen corduroy, wet, thick powder on hard, uneven snow. 6″ of decent pow on medium firm pow.
Riders:
 James (Size 9 E, 5’10”, 185-190lbs). I’ve tested and compared 850+ boards, 200+ bindings, and 120+ boots
Davey (Size 12, 240lbs, 6’4”)
Boots: Nitro Team BOA, Nitro Team TLS
Insoles: F.I.T. Gamechangers
Bindings: Union Force, Union Atlas Step On
Redundancy: Strapins in case boots or bindings break.
Jacket: Skyline Fuse Jacket, Jones Mtn Surf Anorak
Pant: Skyline Fase 3L Bib Pant, Skyline Faze Pant, Jones Mountain Surf Pant
Helmet: Smith Method, Smith Scout
Goggle: Smith 4D Mag Low Bridge Fit
Gloves: Burton AK Clutch Mitt, Burton AK Tech Leather Glove

James’s Set Up: 21.5” Wide. Stance Angles +18/-3, +18/+3, +24/+6. Close to Reference on groomers and set all the way back in powder.

How it Fits Me

They made the 158 this year a good bit wider than the older 58. In powder and good groomers, this feels great, but it’s a little harder for me to control, turn, and throw around when conditions are uneven. I think I like the old 58 for that better, but I wouldn’t want to size down to the 155. I tried the older 155 and 158 splits, which were even wider than the new Powgoda Solid and Split Enduro models, and the 155 felt too small.

This reference stance of 22.8″ seems excessively wide for a 158. Especially for my short legs that like a stance of 21″-21.5″ wide. I could only use the front one and not the back one.

Sizing The Cardiff Powgoda

Cardiff Powgoda Sizing 158
Cardiff Powgoda Sizing 158

Sizing is very subjective and personal. Never assume your way is the right way, and there is no right answer. Just make sure it’s not too wide to be able to turn it or it’s not too narrow to boot out.

Here is the best way to figure out what board will work for you. I rarely use “all caps to emphasize something, but this is really important. NEVER TRUST ANYONE who doesn’t ask or reference boot size, weight, and height.

Boots

You should always start with your boot size first. If your boot is too wide, you can’t turn it; if it’s too narrow, you get the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag. This is the most important part of sizing a board, which is why so many models come in various widths, such as Narrow, Normal, Mid-Wide, Wide, and Ultra-Wide.

Most brands don’t include a recommended boot size because it’s very complicated and time-consuming, but Cardiff does provide the width over the inserts so you can calculate overhang. Here are some conservative boot sizing recommendations. Remember that the back foot is narrower than the front, so the waist width will not ride as wide as on a non-tapered board.

152: 6-7
155: 8-9
158: 10-11
162: 11-12

Weight

Your weight determines how the board will flex underfoot. Give you more or less pop, speed, etc.

Check Cardiff’s suggested weight range for each board. Then try to find a balance between what size best fits your boot size and weight.

Height

Next, check the length in relation to what you want from this board. The length of the board determines the swing weight/control or longer effective edge, depending on what you want from a board.

Boots and Bindings Response

The next factor in your boot and binding’s responsiveness determines how well you will be able to turn/control a board.

Personal Preference

Lastly, you need to factor in how you like to ride. Some prefer control, so matching the boot size first for easiest turn initiation is the priority, with weight second. Others prefer dampness over control, want to charge, and like to size up in width and length. Others like to ride wider boards with very responsive boots/bindings to carve harder.

Construction / Durability

Cardiff Powgoda Top Sheet

Now, when it comes to durability, there aren’t a lot of battle scars from this very thin top sheet, so that’s good.

Cardiff Powgoda Sidewall Construction
Cardiff Powgoda Sidewall Construction

There are some minor cosmetic imperfections where the top sheet meets the sidewall. There was also a twist in my Powgoda that I talk about more in Camber Profile.

The weight is a little heavier overall than in past years, but there’s more pop. My demo came in at 6lbs 12.6oz but I’ve found it can often vary from a few oz to almost a full lb difference.

Cardiff Powgoda Urethane Tail Guard
Cardiff Powgoda Urethane Tail Guard

So they put a urethane tail block where they used to have steel. The problem with using steel is that during the base grind before production, steel enters the base. And that’s why the base had a grayish tint. So now, with this urethane, it doesn’t extend down into the base, so the base looks blacker and cleaner.

And this helps with impact better than the metal they had here before. I thought it might affect the speed because this is a little stickier and has less glide. But I put some wax on it, and I never felt it. Once.

Shape & Setback

Cardiff Powgoda Shape & Setback
Cardiff Powgoda Shape & Setback

Now, when it comes to shape, it is very tapered and very directional. There is a big ass nose. It seems even bigger than before. And then a touch even smaller tail.

This is on that border between alternative freeride and snowsurf. When you’re in reference stance with this board, it feels a little more alternative. Freeride. But if you set it all the way back on the setback inserts, it starts to have that snowsurf feel.

Camber/On Snow Feel

Cardiff Powgoda Camber
Cardiff Powgoda Camber

Now, when it comes to camber, it has a mellow camber all the way to about the front insert, then it starts rising. There’s a decent amount of camber, but this board I got is a demo model, and it has a twist. The production model should not have that. And this happens sometimes with demos. If it does, send it back. That being said, when I was weighted on it, I didn’t feel the twist, which was good. If you get a twist, send it back. But this is very stable, very forgiving. for a committed intermediate, on up to an expert.

Edge Hold

Cardiff Powgoda Edge Hold
Cardiff Powgoda Edge Hold

Now, when it comes to edge hold, there is a slight disruption in the side cut over each insert. And it really helps to make this an excellent hard snowboard. This could almost be an icy snow specialist.

So if you ride on the East Coast but want to head out west and have an amazing floater, this could be a great choice.

Flex Personality

Cardiff Powgoda Flex
Cardiff Powgoda Flex

The Cardiff Powgoda Enduro has a medium-stiff, bordering on stiff flex from the tail to the front foot.

Cardiff Powgoda Nose Flex
Cardiff Powgoda Nose Flex

But as you get to the rocker area before the nose, it’s medium-soft bordering on soft. And that is where all the flex is coming from.

So overall, it’s medium stiff, bordering on stiff, with a soft nose. So it’s a super pow-friendly nose. It’s super easy to butter on the tails, a little easier to butter. And then you get this pop, though. That’s pretty good, especially for having such mellow camber.

It’s a really easy board to Ollie with and get air with, even though you’re so set far back.

Uneven Snow

Cardiff Powgoda Uneven Snow
Cardiff Powgoda Uneven Snow

When it comes to uneven snow, this is a mixed bag. The Cardiff Powgoda is a champ and hard on even snow. That micro, bumpy snow that can sometimes create chatter and make a board feel cranky. This just absorbs that like a champ.

In soft, thick, uneven snow, this is unruly. It bounces and bucks around like a car with loose shocks. It didn’t completely break the deal for me, but it’s something you need to know about and be concerned about.

If you see a lot of thick, soft, uneven snow, it often stands out as the worst board in such conditions. In same-day comparisons. I’d love to see them figure out some way to fix that. Because that would put this board at the top of my list of recommendations.

Turning/Carving

Cardiff Powgoda Turn
Cardiff Powgoda Turn

Turn Initiation

When it comes to turn initiation, I was surprised by how well this worked for my size 9 boots in a 58, especially since it’s wider than the old 58. And you never feel the tail behind you turning through tight spots. And it turns very quickly on groomers if you’re sized right as well.

Carving

And when it comes to weighting your turns and carving, this is a very good carver. I couldn’t believe how well it turned out for being such a back-seat camber. But here’s the thing. This front foot area, the camber stops, and it starts to rise too early. So you’re not really engaging the camber over the front foot, getting that spring out of the turn. And it can feel a little washy.

But what I really liked was setting it up posi and putting a lot of weight on my back foot, then really leaning into the forward part of my back foot and engaging this part of the side cut. It really lit it up and made it drive down the line more. Then, if I back-footed and leaned back into the edge behind my back foot, it had a more circular, carvy, springy turn. So it was really fun to play around with the weighting on this board.

Turning Radius

And in terms of the turning radius, you can make a wide variety of turns with this. It loves a circle carve. It loves across the groomer carve. And it loves medium radius turns.

Speed

But what really surprised me is on a firm, fun, edgeable, fast day. How well this was handled going straight. And I think it’s because you’re not really engaging a lot of this deeper entry in the side cut because there’s a rocker there. So it’s not as turny as it looks.

You can really point it, and it won’t fight you. It was really fast. It’s much better than you would think, especially on groomers. In powder, this sidecut’s going to come into play. It’s not going to be a straight liney, but it’s going to be better than you would think.

Base Glide

Cardiff Powgoda Base Glide
Cardiff Powgoda Base Glide

When it comes to base glide, I was really concerned when they switched factories because GP 87 has the best bases on the market. I’m not worried anymore. This is a fast, easy, gliding, wonderful base that kept its speed just as fast as the fastest of the fast bases out there.

It’s really well done. It holds its wax pretty well, too. I waxed this, but it hasn’t dried up too much after several days, so it’s got good wax retention for sure.

Powder

Cardiff Powgoda Powder
Cardiff Powgoda Powder

When it comes to pow float, this is exceptional even on reference stance. If you want to ride more centered, you have bigger lines. You want more tail, you want more landing gear. You can set it up closer to reference and still get amazing directional float, but it has the setback inserts, which I love.

I wish they were on the Crane, the Goat, the Lynx, but I love that they have it here on the Powgoda and the Swell. If you can utilize these setback inserts, they’re pretty wide for the 58. I couldn’t, but I set this one all the way back, then found my stance width back from the reference stance marker, and it still had incredible ease of float.

I wish I could have gotten this in the deep, deep, like I got the old ones, because this wider width is going to handle deeper snow that we often see at Mount Bachelor much better than the old one.

This is an excellent, dedicated powder board. There are only a few boards that I like better than this, and you can do so much worse. So this is great, there.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this Cardiff Powgoda is amazing in hard, uneven snow and smooth conditions. It floats well, has an amazing grip, has a fast base, and it’s incredible on groomers.

So if you can live with that soft, uneven snow performance, everything else about this is amazing.
