Update for 2023: The Capita Super DOA has had some minor tweaks to the top sheet and core but still has the same shape, camber profile, and a very similar flex personality to the 2020 we tried. 

The Capita Super DOA takes everything from the DOA and augments it. It’s the same shape and camber profile but with a different everything else. Other than having an off turning radius it does everything else well and really shines as a board for those who live for air.

How This Review Happened:  We borrowed this for an extended demo and then returned it.

Conditions: Mixed conditions. Some runs were good, some hard and some pretty uneven and scary
Riders: James (Size 9, 5’10” 185-195lbs), Nick (Size 10, 160lbs, 5’8”), Jimbo (Size 11, 5’11” 160lbs), Stephen (Size 12.5, 215lbs, 6’3”)

Set-Up:  22” Wide. 15 front -15 back.  Centered.

Approximate Weight: Feels pretty light but not ultra-light. Just borders on the lighter side of normal.

Sizing: The 154 worked pretty well for all of us but Jimbo’s size 11’s. I (James Biesty) probably could have enjoyed the 156  a little more but the 154 was very doable. Jimbo would love the 155w for his 11’s.

Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level/Skidded Turns: So the camber profile of the Super DOA rode the same to us as the DOA. You really feel the flat sections and you don’t as much with the Asymulator that we compared it with. It has an on snow feel that is somewhat catchy that borders on stable and it almost has that camber catch to it.

Flex/Pop/Buttering: This flat before the tip/tail makes for a pretty poppy ride. Especially that like to load up their ollie power in the tip/tail. Weirdly enough Jimbo and I could really butter it well. It was a bit much for Nick with his specs and he would have preferred a smaller size.

Speed: So the Capita DOA isn’t that damp but the base glides really well. It’s on the upper end of the spectrum and it has a great base grind that is ready for all conditions.

Uneven Terrain: Not the best for powering over stuff at aggressive speeds but still pretty good. It did not pass up micro chatter into our bones from those groomers that are still rideable but bumpy enough to make some boards cranky.

Edge Hold: There isn’t a lot of grip and an average rider who doesn’t know how to play with the edges to make it grab more won’t like this in harder snow. Many riders who do though will find it pretty good.

Turn Initiation: Pretty quick.

Turning Experience/Carving: Something about the flat after the bindings combined with the sidecut makes the Super DOA different than other boards. It seems to interfere with the turning radius and to us, it misses that satisfying feel coming out of a turn. Since turning is such a big part of snowboarding this can be a deal-breaker for some. Others can get used to it and enjoy the rest of the good things about this board.

Powder: Compared to most twins, the Super DOA is not a board we would like to be on when it gets deep. You can’t set it back much or at all in powder and it doesn’t

Switch: Really good either way.

Getting Air/Park: The one shining aspect of the Super DOA is its ability to hit kickers and get air. That’s mainly what rippers love about this board and the Super DOA steps it up from the Regular DOA. The way it tracks into a jump and the way the base picks up speed is what makes the Super DOA shine over the regular model.
