Fit

For Davey and I, with our thicker thighs these were tight. Especially around the pocket and crotch area. Even with the stretch material it didn’t feel that easy to take a big step.

Construction

The stretch material is nice and has an easy stretch to it. If it wasn’t for that Davey and I would have trouble walking.

Waterproofing/Breathability

The stretchy material is nice but the outer fabric isn’t that great for shedding wet snow or rain. It makes the membrane do a lot of extra work. When I owned these they didn’t feel like they were 15k/15gm pants. They felt more like 5k with the way the semi-coarse and porous outer material took in water.

Venting

Two thigh vents that run a little low on the leg so the crotch (hot spot) doesn’t vent as easy.

Pockets

4 small pockets. 2 front and 2 back. They were hard for Davey and I to get our hands in and out. For Grant, it was fine.

Volcom Freakin Snow Chino Past Reviews

The Volcom Freaking Chino Pant evolved a bit this year and has a bit more waterproofing than it used to. Even though it doesn’t have a mess of pockets there is really strong waterproofing/breathability as well as construction for this price point.  It makes this a very recommendable pant.

2016 Volcom Freakin Snow Chino Pant Review

I was wrong with the Waterproofing rating.  It’s actually 10k which is expected in this price range.  Breathability is below average for this price point but Volcom makes up for it with a good fit and good construction. Also the liner is a mesh that borders on being solid fabric at the upper part of the pant and then it turns into regular fabric near the knee on down which is really good because it protects the membrain better than most pants in this price range.  So your 10k waterproofing will last longer than a 10k with just a thin mesh.
