How The Union Force Team Was Tested:

I borrowed the Union Force Team for an extended demo and sent it back.

Size: Medium

Days: 12+
Conditions: Mostly varied conditions going from hard to medium-soft but a few pow days with some early morning Slackountry pow time On my Drift Board bindingss & Union Rovers
Riders: James (Size 9 E, 5’10”, 185-190lbs). I’ve tested and compared 850+ boards, 200+ bindings, and 120+ boots
Insoles: F.P. Gamechangers
Redundancy: Strapins in case boots or bindings break.

Weight

The Union Force Team weighs 2 lbs 4 oz, which is on the medium-light side and only a touch lighter than the regular Union Force.

Highback Flex

The Union Force Team has a pretty easy twist for a binding this responsive, but not much give, and it’s very similar to the regular Union Force.

Adjustability

The Union Force Team has some of the best adjustability in the industry, and this is an excellent choice for those that feel centering your boot in the binding is important, like I do.  The adjustable heel loop and gas pedal help line me up properly on the gas pedal, give me even overhang on the board, and provide a more symmetrical response.

You also get toolless strap adjustability and a good forward-lean adjuster. You can also rotate your highbacks to line up with your heel side edge for better response and less calf bite. Other than bindings like the Rome Katana that have all that the Force offers plus ankle strap angle adjustability for more or less support/response, this is as good as it gets.

Flex Underfoot

The Union Force Team definitely stiffens up the flex underfoot with this full-size disc and no EVA foam surrounding the discs, but it doesn’t feel dead either. It’s the same as the regular Force, and it’s for those that like a stiffer, more composed board vs. an easy board to butter. That being said, you can butter it, but just not like the mini-disc Union bindings.

Shock Absorption/Dampness

The Union Force Team has very capable shock absorption. It’s not at the highest tier, but it’s up there for sure and felt a little better than my regular Union Force. Neither are super damp, but they are far from fatiguing either, so overall it’s a very good all-day ride. I do wish they would put some rubber at the bottom of the base plate like the Union Atlas has to dampen up the ride even more.

Turn Initiation/Response

The Union Force team is very responsive for a non-step-on binding, and while I’ve ridden many bindings that are more responsive, I haven’t ever felt like I wanted more. It’s a very adaptable response to just about any kind of board that rarely overpowers an easy-turning board or underpowers a more demanding board.

I will say, though, that in same-day testing I found that this softer ankle strap makes the Union Force Team feel a little slower than the regular Force.

Boot Support/Straps

The Union Force Team doesn’t have as much support as the regular Force, but it’s still pretty supportive and a little more comfortable. The toe strap is grips super well and really pulls your boot into the heel loop and high back of the binding just like the regular Force

Ratchets

These ratchets are excellent, and it’s been well over a decade since I’ve had a single issue with a Union Ratchet. These just work for hundreds upon hundreds of days of riding if you treat your bindings right.

Final Thoughts

So, overall, I personally like my regular Union Force better than the Union Force Team’s because I like a more supportive ankle strap, but if you always wanted a more comfortable ankle strap and a little more cush feel in the footbed, you have the Team Force.
