Below is what Trew says about the Popover Unisex Sizing

“This is a unisex jacket, and runs large! Guys, if you are between sizes or prefer a slimmer fit, size down; ladies, size down 1-2 SIZES from your standard size in women’s.”

I tested this jacket with the Trew Trillium Bib

Fit

I have a size XS which is close to a women’s medium. The Popover jacket is roomy and comfortable and slightly on the baggier side (at least on me). I love the arm length it has and the torso is long enough for good coverage from the snow while riding with plenty of room for movement.

Hood and helmet compatibility Recco in the hood

Hood/Helmet Compatibility

The hood fit over my Giro helmet but it is a bit snug. When the jacket is zipped up all the way its a bit too tight to be totally comfortable. So for me, the hood is more of shelter from the weather for chair lift rides, and then I’ll take it off while riding. The Popover also comes with Recco, which is located in the bill of the hood.

Wearing the Popover jacket in the rainRiding in the rainSoft fabric but also 20k waterproof

20k Waterproofing

I tested this jacket out in sleet, rain, and something that was trying to be snow but was still pretty much rain. I was running an event, so I spent 3hrs straight in the rain. And the Popover jacket did a great job at keeping me dry.

The waterproofing is a bit different, as the material absorbs the water first, and then seems to evaporate the moisture. As opposed to just rolling off the material. So the jacket looked wet, but the moisture never passed through the first layer of the outer shell. The only down side to this in the wet weather, was the jacket did get a bit heavy when it was fully saturated.

Once I was out of the moisture, the jacket dried incredibly quick.

The cool part of the jacket’s material, is that it has really good waterproofing without feeling like a waterproof jacket. It is quiet when you move around, and has more of a soft/flexible feel as well.

Hiking in the Popover Jacket

20k Breathability

I wore the Trew Popover jacket on some warmer riding days, and even got a hike in at Palisades. It is breathable enough for random hike-to adventures around the resort, or warmer weather. When it was windy, I could tell it was breathable because I could feel a bit of fresh air passing through the jacket. However the shell is lined, so that helps add a bit of comfort and warmth as well.

Waterproof zippers on the side pockets

Pockets

The Popover comes with one pass through pouch pocket with two openings (and water resistant zippers), a catch all pouch on the front of the jacket, and one pass pocket on the sleeve. I do wish it had some kind of interior phone pocket, because the only option was to put my phone in one of the front pockets lower down on the jacket. This isn’t my favorite location, and I move a lot as I ride, and sometimes it can get in the way of movements.

Room to move while riding in the Popover jacket

Overall

The Trew Popover jacket is a very comfortable shell that is functional in nicer weather and stormy weather alike. I really like the fit and style of the Popover, and love the relaxed fit and long sleeves.
