Soul Blower Snowboard Video and Written Review Review by The Good Ride

2023 Update: There is no change to the Soul Blower I rode in 2022 except they now have a size 155 as well as a 162. Hope they add a 158 too.

How It Was Tested

I rode this on powder and compared it same day to the Spring Break Powder Pill and O.Sin 4807. On Groomers I primarily compared it same day to the Soul Pitchwing and 4807.

Approximate Weight

This is a pretty wide board for a 162 so it doesn’t feel light but it is pretty normal for this much surface area. (We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight)

Sizing

The Soul Blower is pretty Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these boards. You can of course go bigger or smaller but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag.
One Size 162
In Clean Deep Powder- It’s almost fine with any regular or mid/wide boot.
On Groomers or tracked up powder with emerging moguls it’s best at 11-13 boots.

Shape/Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level

The Soul Blower has a good bit of taper leading into a swallow tail but the real story is the camber profile. It has a directional camber profile but with a pretty pronounced spoon nose and lifted sides that continue well into the contact points

Flex Personality

The flex of the Soul Blower is med-stiff between the feet but softer in the tip and tail.

There is lots of easy flex in the nose and the tail flexes a little easier on snow but not as much as the tail. It is reasonably flexy but its poppy and damp. That is pretty unique to combine all three into the flex personality. It makes for a great all conditions ride and we both really love this boards overall personality underfoot. It can feel a bit wide and hard to turn with it’s 27.6cm waist in messy snow but it’s not going to send much chatter up into your joints.

Speed

Really good base glide and the Soul Blower is damper than you would think for it’s flex.

Edge Hold

The edges can feel washy if you don’t lean into the tail and pressure into the regular camber on the tail. If you do it grips well but it’s just not there with the full camber rides from Soul.

Turning Experience/Carving

So the Soul Blower is definitely a powder board first but this is more than just a powder board. We had a hell of a time leaning into the regular camber in the back and in contrast to the spoon nose it felt like fins on a surfboard. You can get a lot more from the Shift here when it comes to a more complete turning experience but this is still a super fun board.

Powder

The Soul Blower has bottomless float. I got it in one of the deepest and lightest days I had at Mt. Bachelor and it floated like a champ. The really wide and big spoon nose had super easy float and a very cool turn. The tapered swallow tail sunk down into the snow rather well and it helped keep the nose up. Then you have an -8.75” set back from center of board from the tail and -12.75” back from the V in the Swallow Tail. I don’t want to be on this when the snow is chopped up and bumpy though as it’s really wide and hard to throw it around on the way to the good stuff.  It is the kind of the board I want to be on when it is super deep.

Conclusion

The Soul Blower is an amazing powder board for when its deep and a very fun board to turn as well. I really like the direction Soul is going with their line lately.
