Capita Scott Stevens Pro 2019 - 2015 Review by The Good Ride
The Capita Scott Stevens Pro is a board that is almost the Capita Ultrafear in terms of how it rides but it has a different shape nose/tail as well as it feels maybe a touch lighter along with some slightly different tech. They are so similar that we felt the Scott Steven’s could have been called the Scott Stevens Ultrafear Pro Model.
The 2019 Capita Scott Stevens Pro, minus a small tweak to the top sheet, is pretty much the same as the 2018 model so this review below still stands.
Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews. We do make money from the “Where To Buy” links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.
Size: 151 & 153
Days: 30+ I owned it, Peter owns it now and we demoed a few models as well.
Conditions: Everything from hard snow in the Sierras to soft perfect Sierra snow as well as good CO snow.
Riders: James and Peter
Boots: Salomon F3.0, Burton Fiend LTD, Burton Fiend
Bindings: Burton Genesis, Union Contact Pro
Set Up: Centered 22.5″-23″ wide 15 front -15 back
Approximate Weight: Felt pretty light but normal for it’s size.
On Snow Feel: Pretty stable feel and it’s a great board to one foot and flat base on. It’s got such a lively playful easy buttering all-around ride that appeals to a wider group of freestyle riders than you would think.
Edge Hold: Not too grippy but it held well enough in good to borderline hard conditions.
Flex: Pretty soft here and it’s something you have to be careful with on your first couple butters. It could just butter you right onto your ass.
Turn Initiation: Pretty fun to make little playful short to medium radius turns but it’s not really that fun making wider radius turns or laying into the beginning of a carving turn.
Turning Experience: This isn’t a board for those that like to turn but more for those that like to butter, one foot and jib. The Capita Scott Stevens is not what you buy for this so just know that going in before releasing that green out of your wallet and you will be happy.
Skidded Turns: Super easy to make skidded turns and it’s a very forgiving board. Super catch free.
Carving: Boring to carve and washy but hey it’s a jib board so who really cares.
Powder: We never rode this in powder but this wouldn’t be bad for its size given the amount of rocker in the tip/tail. Still, it’s not a board we’d want to be on in over 1′ of medium to thick powder.
Speed: Pretty chattery and not that fun to bomb with but again it’s a jib board. It’s only fun on the mountain if you take it slow and treat it like a jib park.
Uneven Terrain: If it’s an uneven end of the day snow the Capita Scott Stevens is fine for playing around all over the hill. It’s not going to help you go faster but instead just play around.
Switch: Almost perfect either way. The only thing better is an asymmetrical twin.
Jibbing: What a great jib board. Super forgiving and playful and confidence inspiring. Really made Peter and I feel like we wanted to push it all over the jib park. Peter is more into jibbing than I am and he loves it. The board bends really well between the feet and feels like it becomes part of the feature you hit. This is why you would buy this board.
Pipe: Not really a board I ever wanted to take in the pipe so didn’t even go there.
Jumps: Nice poppy board for flat to rocker but not really something you would like to really launch off anything above small to medium sized kickers at best. Still, it’s easy to approach a jump and forgiving on the landing. Easy to spin with too. If you are really into hitting kickers then you should consider the Outerspace Living, Outsiders or DOA.
So all in all the Capita Scott Stevens Pro is a really fun jib and park ride that makes most of the parks you see around the world a pretty fun place. It’s so much like the Capita Ultrafear that you could go either way.
