Capita Jess Kimura Pro 2019 Review by The Good Ride

The Capita Jess Kimura Pro is a board we wanted to get on for a while and finally did.  It charges like a deck you would imagine only Jess would shred. The amount of pop on this board is incredible and it also feels very secure all over the mountain. The Jess Kimura Pro model is for the more experienced rider or one who wants that nice camber feel under your boots. It is a lively deck that can take you wherever you please and charges hard in all situations.

In the table review on the Jess Kimura Pro model I couldn’t figure out why the camber looked like it went further on the tail than the nose, but after looking at the profile on Capita’s website the board profile is camber in the middle with a section of zero camber on the tail before the tail rises up, and a little reverse camber on the nose. That combo gives you an extra stable and snappy tail but extra float in powder.

Size:  142

Conditions: Typical Sierra Snow that’s mostly good.

: 21.5” Centered 15 front -15 back

Approximate Weight: Feels normal to light on your feet.
Flex/Buttering: The board butters well, but you have to be a little more aggressive with it than a more flexible board. Because of the medium flex and the camber profile you are gonna have to work a little more for the butters, but that’s a good thing if you are looking for the aggressive board that the Jess Kimura model is. But once you get it up into the reverse camber zone on the board you are good to go.
Sizing: 138, 142, 146, 150
On Snow Feel: Very stable and secure, it’s great flat based but a little catchy with that aggressive camber that it has, so just be aware if you aren’t used to riding camber. But locks in great when you are on edge and feels confident when charging.
Edge Hold: Has nice edge hold for medium to hard days.
Turn Initiation: Really fast and snappy turning on this board, the camber is so lively that it will take you right into the next turn with minimal effort.
Turning Experience: I found it to be really fun to turn, it has a great ability to snap from one turn to the other, and you can slow it down for the more skidded turns as well if needed.
Carving: Very fun to carve on, it has an aggressive camber profile that goes past your feet so you can hold the carve line for longer than some hybrid camber boards.
Speed: Felt nice and solid at high speeds, it also comes with a nice sintered base that should hold its speed better than extruded bases.
Uneven Terrain: Fun to work in uneven terrain, aggressive enough to power through chunder, might get a bit lively if it is super bumpy and you try to go right through, like most freestyle boards you will probably be better off turning through the bumps instead of charging.
Powder: It is a directional twin with early rise in the nose so medium powder days shouldn’t be too much of a problem. On the deep days though, you might want to have a backup board.
Switch: Rides switch great, just as good as normal.
Jumps: REALLY fun to jump and spin. The pop that this board has is awesome, and it is really stable. But it is a more intermediate to advanced ride, so if you are just learning jumps be careful of the aggressive camber that it has if you mess up.
Jibbing: Fun jib board, feels solid on rails and boxes, but again I don’t think it is a board for learning to do these things, would be best if you practice on a more forgiving board first.
Pipe: Really fun in the pipe as well, it is a super solid ride as well as dynamic and snappy. Would be great for pipe riding.

Overall the Jess Kimura Pro Model is a solid deck with a lot to offer the rider who is looking for an aggressive ride that is also very versatile.
