How It Rides And Who It Is For

How This Review Happened:  Borrowed this for an extended demo and sent it back. 1 day demo. A few laps at a demo. Liked it so much, asked to keep it (only do this with favorites).  Liked it so much we bought it.  Precious Good Ride dollars were spent to buy this and review it.

Fit

The Volcom Guide Gore-Tex Pant has a very middle ground fit that is a little on the baggy side from the knees down. In the thighs it is a touch on the tighter side. So guys like me with thick thighs/girth in all the wrong places don’t fit this super well. It feels a bit tight on a high step and I feel the content in my pockets too much because of that. Keys and other contents could wear through it too quickly.

Construction

Excellent construction. I wish the front pockets were top opening instead of side but that’s it.

Waterproofing/Breathability

The Volcom Guide Gore-Tex Pant is 3 layer Gore-Tex and that is pretty impressive. I like it better than 2L when it comes to waterproofing and this is a pant you can rain ride with. Breathability isn’t the best of the best but it’s really good. You have dual vents on each leg so that really helps if you get a little hot.

Gaiters/Cuffs

The Gaiter elastic is a little thin but the cuff is pretty burly.

Buttons

I wish the Volcom Guide Gore-Tex Pant had 2 buttons instead of one but with a belt this should be fine.

Waist Adjuster

Lots of room for the pre-season waistline and lots of adjustability for the end of the season waistline.

Liner

The Volcom Guide Gore-Tex Pant has kind of a grooved liner that seems to be there to help minimize contact with the layers beneath it. I like this idea.

Pant to Jacket Interface

The zip tech is proprietary but man it’s a great idea to keep snow out your back.

Conclusion

I would have loved to as Tobias said from Arrested Development “Blue Myself” this year with a matching jacket and pants but the Volcom Gore-Tex Guide Pant was just a little too tight around my thighs to make it happen.
