Nike Aeroloft Jacket 2014 Review by The Good Ride

The Nike Aeroloft Jacket looks like it’s big and bulky in the pictures but it isn’t and acts a lot more like its name. It’s a well fitting jacket and the color isn’t as orange in person as it is in the pictures.  My wife said it doesn’t look construction worker orange nor does it look deg-lo. It kind of has its own unique reddish orange color that leans a little bit on the side of red.

Size Tried: Large
James’ Specs:
Height: 5’10”,
Weight: 195 lbs,
Upper Body-:44” Chest, Torso Length 23” (collar bone to pant button), Shoulder Width Approx 22”, Arm Length 19.5” (pit to wrist)
Lower Body: 33” Waist, 42” Hips, 30” Inseam,  24.5” Thigh
Turn On’s: Size L Jackets that fit well around my chest, size M pants that fit well around my thighs so I can get in and out of my pockets, open roads, Surfy Powder Turns, Riding with Friends, new gear and especially my super-hot super smart super funny wife.
Turn Off’s: Size L Jackets that don’t fit well around my chest, super tight Size M Pants that I can’t get up over my thighs, traffic and people who can’t park inside the lines.

Normally I can’t ride in a puffy with this much insulation but the Aeroloft feels light and doesn’t feel like a heat trap.  After a few days with highs at 12 degrees Fahrenheit before wind chill and it was perfect. Normally even in those conditions, I would start to overheat but with the Aeroloft I was never cold or never felt like I was overheating. Also, the contoured hood worked great in the cold weather when it was zipped all the way up and over my helmet.  It was perfect because I didn’t have to wear a bandana over the face.  I’m not that into banana’s or wearing face protection because it’s much better to have a warm contour hood that covers my face all the way up to the Goggles so I can zip and unzip when I need more air or more warmth.

It’s a nice shell for those that want mid to borderline warm jackets but also want to feel like they are not wearing a bulky thick insulated jacket. I like the look and especially the light feel. Also, the waterproofing and breathability are pretty close to most Gore-Tex jackets so it’s got weatherproofing as well as warmth.
