Summary

The Tent Lab Deuce 3 Trowel is a very light weight but strong digging tool. It has a slight serrated edge so you can saw through roots. It only weighs 0.97 oz so you won't even notice it in your pack. The Deuce 3 Trowel came in my June 2020 Cairn Subscription Box as one of their items for the month.

The Tent Lab Deuce 3 Trowel 2022 - 2020 Review by The Good Ride

How This Review Happened:  Steph owns this.

Testers: Steph

Weight: 0.97 oz

Packability: The Deuce 3 is very easy to pack. It takes almost no space at all, and comes with a hole in the end of the handle if you want to just hang it from the outside of your pack too. It is also super light.

Dimensions: 8″ x 2.6″ x 1″

Durability: The Deuce 3 is made of more durable, thicker metal than The Tent Lab‘s other trowels. It felt strong when I was digging a hole with it. I don’t see it bending or breaking if you hit a rock or something.

Functionality: The Tent Lab made the Deuce 3 tougher and with a slightly serrated edge that helps to cut through hard dirt and roots you might find in your hole. It worked great for me for the most part. I hike and camp in the Eastern Sierra normally. It is very dry here and you find lots of rocks once you dig below 2″ normally. In softer dirt this trowel worked great. When I hit the hard stuff, the handle became really uncomfortable. I think I’ll probably wrap it in some fabric for my next trip to fix that problem.

Overall

The Tent Lab Deuce 3 Trowel is a great lightweight option for most of your digging needs. It weighs next to nothing, seems strong and durable, and takes almost no space in the pack. This trowel is meant for tougher terrain that is harder to dig in. I felt like it did a pretty good job, but it wasn’t the most comfortable to hold while digging through the hard stuff.
