Oneill 5mm Psycho Tech Split Toe Bootie 2020 Review by The Good Ride
The O’Neill 5mm Psycho Tech Split Toe Bootie has incredible board feel. The sole isn’t going to last too long and you feel every rock you step on. So it is up to you to decide it’s worth it to have that kind of feel.
O’Neill 5mm Psycho Tech Split Toe Bootie Review
James’ Boot size: 9 E
Fit: The O’Neill 5mm Psycho Tech Split Toe Bootie fits really well for my size 9 E foot and I think it favors a medium to medium/wide foot best. The strap at the bottom below the ankle helps too.
Board Feel: There is excellent board feel with the O’Neill Psycho Tech booties. They are super thin in comparison to every other bootie out there. If you hate the feel of booties but still have to wear them then this is your choice. Feeling almost barefoot is great on the board but you feel every rock walking out and you really feel it if you stub your toe.
Reliability: The O’Neill 5mm Psycho Tech Split Toe Bootie wears out pretty quickly in the sole. The rest of the boot holds up well though. The Neoprene is very stretchy and it doesn’t last as long as other booties but it isn’t as bad as the sole. This is the price you pay for this kind of board feel.
Warmth: My Hotline 3MM bootie is warmer than this 5mm so definitely go thicker. I have better board feel though with O”Neill 5mm booties vs. my 3mm Hotline. I can handle temps down to the Low 50’s/High 40’s depending on the air temp here at the Bend River wave but my 5mm & 7mm Hotline booties are what I wear when the water temp and air temp are colder.
So for me, feel is everything so as soon as the water is warm enough for me I put my O’Neill booties on.
