Goal Zero Crush Light 2023 - 2020 Review by The Good Ride

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  We do make money from the “Where To Buy” links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average camper’s perspective.

How This Review Happened:  Steph owns this light.

Testers: Steph

Weight: 3.2 oz (91 g)

Packability: This little lantern compresses down to almost nothing. Since you probably want to store it on the outside of your pack for charging while you hike, it takes no space up at all. There are two plastic loops for you to easily attach the Crush Light to anywhere with random straps or bungees.

Open Dimensions: 4.95 x 4.95 x 3.9 in

Collapsed Dimensions: 4.95 x 4.95 x .6 in

Durability

I feel like with the simplistic design that the Crush Light has, not much can go wrong or break. The most delicate part of this lantern would be the little green handle that easily detaches. It is possible it could get lost eventually. But the silicone lantern part seems very durable, and the rest of it is so compact that it would be difficult to break. Perhaps scratching the solar panel up could be something to watch out for as well.

Functionality

My favorite thing about the Goal Zero Crush Light, is its simplicity. It is a lightweight, compact, solar powered lantern. And it works. It doesn’t require much power to charge it up via solar. To get a complete charge, you need 20 hrs of sunlight. But on a full charge the little battery lasts quite a while.

  • High power: 3 hours
  • Medium power: 6 hours
  • Low power: 35 hours
  • Candle light: 3.5 hours

Or you can also charge it via USB for 2.5 hrs and you are good to go.

One thing that I think would really make this little light even better, would to have some sort of battery charge indicator.

Overall

The Goal Zero Crush Light is a great little camping lantern that you can charge via solar or USB. It is extremely easy to use, super light, and super small. The price is very affordable, and it does exactly what it is supposed to do. I feel like the Goal Zero Crush Light will be my go to backpacking light source for a while.

2023 Update

The Crush light was a great little lantern. I used it a lot and very consistently and eventually after about 2 years of use, the silicone folds in the light broke, and the shade for the lantern came apart from the actual light. But we did put it through the ringer for 2 years before this happened. The light still works though.
