Pad Sleeve

The Big Agnes Diamond 30 has a really well-designed pad sleeve. I do like the newer pad sleeves you see on the Lost Ranger sleeping systems but this works with a wide variety of pads. I found it’s pretty tight with most 30x78x4 inch pad sleves though. It works but it’s a bit awkward and tight. I sometimes feel like I’m stressing the bags seems when I have my Hest Foamy 78x30x3.9 inch pad on. With no insulation on the pad side you need a comfortable pad. 

Fit

This bag fits Davey very well, and he’s 6’4″, 240lbs.

I’m 5’10”, 185-190lbs, and I like the fit, too. So does my wife, at 5’9 150lbs. 

Warmth

One thing to be very aware of when sleeping badly is that your warmth is only as good as your pad. You have no form of insulation on the pad side. Not that it provides a lot of warmth when it’s compressed by your body but it does help. It would have been great to see some sort of synthetic on the bottom part that goes over the pad as well as the down feathers in the top quilt/sides. Still, the Big Agnes Diamond 30 seems close to its 30-degree rating. I think most will feel comfortable in a warm tent with a good pad at 40-50f and warmer people like Davey and I would be ok with 30-40f under the hood. My wife would like this in 60-70f as she runs very cold. It will be warmer for bigger people, but it’s still pretty warm for medium-sized people like me who like to have lots of room inside your sleeping bag. 

Zippers

The Big Agnes Diamond 30 zippers aren’t exceptional but snag about the same as most sleeping bags we have tried. What I do like is that you can zip the comforter entirely off and use it like a bed blanket. Or you can open up the bottom if your feet get warm. Even better is you can turn the blanket into a minimalist mummy bag. 

Design

This bag is well thought out and I love the hand warmer sleeve/pockets at the top of the quilt. I thought it would be a gimmick, but I liked it.

I also like the larger pillow barn size and wide hood to accommodate really large camp pillows like my Hest Camp Pillow, which is almost the size of a bed pillow. It’s a very comfortable sleeping bag and feels more like a bed with a hood than a sleeping bag. 

Packability

This is a car camper first, so I didn’t expect much packability, so I wasn’t disappointed. It’s not terrible to use a compression sack instead of the one you get with it but it’s not minimalist backpacking bag. 

Final Thoughts

The Big Agnes Diamond 30 has greatly expanded my camping quiver. It’s a very recommendable car camper.
