Borrowed this for an extended demo and sent it back.
Size: 156 for James & 160 for Davey
Days: 4+
Conditions: Pretty much good to slightly uneven groomers.
Riders: James (Size 9, 5’10” 185-190lbs), Davey (Size 12, 240lbs, 6’4”)

James’s Set Up: 21.5” Wide. Sance Angles +24/+6, +27/+9. Close to Reference.
Davey’s Set Up: 23” Wide. Sance Angles +18/+3, +24/+6. Close to Reference.

How It Was Tested

I had nothing close to test this against so I took a run on the Hovercraft to compare one day with the same boots/bindings after testing the Freecarver.

Approximate Weight

The Jones Freecarver 9000 felt normal.

(We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight)

Sizing

Here are some ideal US boot sizes for the Jones Freecarver 9000 boards. These are not to be ridden in a normal size because you want zero toe/heel drag. Get this much wider than you normally would but also get it shorter. Jones has mixed sizing on the site. Jones recommends the 160 for my weight and the 156 for my boot size. I choose the 156 for my boot size and I was soo glad I did. I would not like going up to the 160 at all as the 156 was all I wanted to handle.

Here are my recommended boot sizes Jones Freecarver 9000. So if you are a little above the recommended weight range for the choose boot size overweight recommendation unless you are ok with having to work massively hard to turn this.
152: 8-10
156: 9-11
160: 10-12
164: 11-13

Shape/Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level

This is very directional and very set back but with not a lot of taper. Then you throw in this massive camber with a ton of effective edge going into a nub of a spoon nose that is barely taller than the camber you have a very catchy board. There a touch of spoon tech in the tiny nose but it only makes it marginally less forgiving. . I barely felt the spoon nose and it didn’t feel washy leaning into the front foot in good conditions.

The overall personality of this board is exceptionally catchy, technical and very unique for a specific type of rider.

Flex Personality

The Jones Freecarver 9000 has a massive amount of camber but a more medium flex. At least our demo’s did. Maybe production is a little more stiff but overall the flex does not match the shape and camber. That is why we call this mellow-cross.

Uneven Terrain

No thanks. It will do better than you would think with this damp construction but it will just be hard as hell to turn in any uneven snow. It will go straight through it really well though.

Edge Hold

The Jones Freecarver 9000 grips very well and the softer flex doesn’t seem to effect the grip as much as I thought.

Speed/Base Glide

There is a very fast base.

Turning Experience/Carving

The Jones Freecarver 9000 does not turn quickly at all. This is very slow and made to go straight. There is a shit ton of camber so the faster you, the more it flexes, and the more it springs out of a turn. It is not an across the groomer or circle carver. It is more about high speed narrower/down the line radius carves. What I like about this is you can front foot weight, center weight or back foot weight your carve. I really didn’t have a preference as long as I was set up with a posi stance and I didn’t feel the tail wash on front foot or center weighted carves.

Powder

I tried boards like this in powder in the past, and it was a nightmare trying to keep that tiny nose up higher than the massive camber, pointing it back down into the snow. This isn’t bad for more of a pure carving board and better than many peers but 10 times out of 10 I would rather be on the Hovercraft instead. When the nose is so short and barely higher than the camber it will greatly detract from the wider shape and set back on board it has.

Conclusion

I was really hoping for the Jones Freecarver 6000 because I’m a much more turny kind of guy. I thought I would not be into the Jones Freecarver 9000 but it’s mellowish flex (well for this type of board) saved the day and I had a pretty good time on clean groomers. What was interesting is Davey took this in a mellow park and it showed how well it would do on a more demanding Boarder X coarse.
