Summary

The Yes 420 is a powder specific board. This board relies on surface area on the snow instead of length to float. It is a short and wide board that is tapered and directional. It was a fun playful ride in deep snow and on groomers alike. The 420 comes with a small bit of camber between the feet and rocker on the nose and tail gives it a very forgiving ride with just enough control under foot.

Yes 420 Women's Written Review Review by The Good Ride

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average rider’s perspective.

How This Review Happened:  We borrowed this for an extended demo and then returned it.

Size: 141

Sizes Available: 141, 145, 148, 152

The Yes 420 is supposed to be a unisex board, and you are supposed to size down from your normal board length. This makes me feel like they should have at least a 138 if they are going to market it towards women too. For example my normal board size is a 142, so I didn’t size down that much to the 141.

Days: 2

Conditions: Powder, groomers, softer snow

On Snow Feel

Right away the Yes 420 was inspiring me to have fun and ride a little more loose than I normally would. It has a light feel when riding and made me want to play around both in the trees and on groomers.

Powder

The short/fat design is made to ride smaller than your normal board, however we were both riding almost our normal size since 141 is as small as they go. But it did float without effort in powder and was fun for me to kind of bounce from one turn to the next in the soft snow.

Turn Initiation and Carving

Because it is so small, and it has a large rocker area, the Yes 420 is quite fast to turn. Sometimes when a board has a wider waist width like this one it seems to lag on harder snow, but the 420 still was quick to turn in all conditions. Carving was fun, but the camber zone is so small that you can’t hold a line for too long. So short carves are more enjoyable.

Speed

For being a little board it holds up well at higher speeds. I didn’t get any chatter when riding fast. It feels very stable. I think the wider board under foot helps with this.

Uneven Terrain

I enjoyed riding the Yes 420 is trees as well as in bumpy snow. It is very easy to turn in tight spots and last minute adjustments are also easy.

Edge Hold

There isn’t much camber so edge hold isn’t the best when you are on ice or harder snow. It felt best in medium to softer snow conditions. And there is no type of disruption in the side-cut to help on ice.

Flex

It comes with a medium flex, which keeps it stable but still allows for a pretty forgiving ride.

Switch

I rode this switch, it isn’t bad for being a directional and tapered board. But it does feel strange, like you are riding it backwards.

Pipe

Might be fun in the lower section of a pipe to mess around in. But wouldn’t be ideal for boosting up the walls.

Jumps

Fun on natural drops/jumps. But not made for bigger park jumps. Forgiving for spins and small tricks.

Overall

The Yes 420 is a fun inspiring powder board that likes to float in snow and play around. It would be good for someone that wants a forgiving powder board that is light and easy to maneuver. Or if you have wider feet, this board has the wider waist width to accommodate that too. If you are looking for a soft snow specific board, this could be a fun choice.

Paige’s Perspective

The YES. 420 is a powder-specific board that is engineered to provide float and stability on those deep runs. The board may take you by surprise with its short and wide figure. But it will let you turn with ease through powder in even the tightest of trees. The short length of the board coupled with the widened waist creates a board that is lofty in deep
snow, but remains stable underfoot.

The shape of this medium flex board is a directional weird – a pointed nose that is slightly longer and wider than the rounded and tapered tail. Riding switch on this board is definitely funky, but it can be done. This board loves to make small radius turns. I felt like this board was pretty quick to initiate turns, which is perfect for tree riding or getting creative while riding down an untouched slab of deep snow.

This board has a surfy feel when plowing through powder. But switches gears on groomers and can put down some pretty decent carves. The edge hold is decent as well, but this is not a board you would want to take out in icy or hard conditions. This board inspired me to make tons of surfy turns while riding through deep snow and groomers alike.

The weightless core, a combination of Poplar and Paulownia, allows the board to be lightweight and have a lofty on snow feel. The sintered spec base allows you to move around quickly. With a Powrock profile, rockered more in the tip than tail, this board will be able to float through the deep stuff whether you are charging hard or cruising at slower
speeds.

Overall, I thought this board was extremely fun to ride and easy to maneuver – it creates a different powder riding experience. This one is definitely worth checking out, but it may not be everyone’s ideal powder board. The YES. 420 is a great addition to the quiver of an intermediate-to-advanced rider who wants to go searching for some deep tree runs. Best to take this one out after a big snowfall to let its powder-specific qualities shine.
