Summary

The Vans Ferra Pro boots were a Good Ride Favorite boot, but this model has since been discontinued. The Vans Ferra Pro is a boot that offers up strong heel hold but also excellent adjustability and dependability of traditional lace. The Ferra Pro is build to last. It takes a bit to break it, but it is worth the wait.

Vans Ferra Pro 2020 - 2013 Review by The Good Ride

Days: 30+ (Steph and Paige both own these boots)

Size Tried:  Women’s 7.5

Riders: Steph & Paige

Bindings: Union Milan

Boards: Salomon Wonder, Yes Emoticon, Jones Dream Catcher

Fit/Sizing: Fits true to size, a little snug right out of the box, but they pack out over time.

Comfort: After they break in the Vans Ferra Pro boots are very comfortable. I had to put a heel lift insole in mine to fit my ankle better. But after that it was comfortable even out of the box. The insole seems to slip back from time to time. Sometimes you feel the seam right under your toes, but this can be fixed by moving the insole forward before putting your foot in.

One thing I noticed on cold days with my Ferra boots was that the bottom of my feet got really cold. The rest of the boot is super warm, but when it is pretty cold out it feels like I’m standing directly on the snow. An upgraded foot-bed could be an easy fix to this problem. If you see colder temps at your resort, or have circulation issues like I do, this might be something to keep in mind.

Turn Initiation: The flex for the Vans Ferra Pro is a 5-7. Turn initiation is pretty quick with still being flexible enough to rid park and do butters.

Shock Absorption: The boots ride pretty smooth while still allowing you to feel the board flex under your feet.

Heel Hold: The ankle harness helps to keep the heel in place and the added focus boa helps add extra hold. I wish the cinch for the inner liner was a little more effective, but it works for the most part.

Adjustability: Great adjustability with the traditional lace, medium adjustability for the inner liner.

Traction:  The Vans Ferra Pro comes with V2 WaffleFlex™ – UltraCush. Gives you a comfortable damp ride on top of great traction.

On & Off Ease: Not as easy as a speed lace or boa set up, but still not too difficult to remove or put on. Takes a little extra time to lace it all up but it stays put once you do.

Overall: The Vans Ferra Pro boots are a great option for someone looking for a more advanced boot with traditional laces. They have a good heel lock, a nice flex that gives you quick response but also butter-ability. There aren’t many intermediate to advanced women’s boots out there that offer traditional laces.

Paige’s Perspective

The Vans Ferra Pro snowboard boots are durable, supportive, comfortable, and responsive. This all-terrain boot is stiff out of the box but breaks in to become a nice medium flex.

The hybrid lace-boa system allows you to dial in your perfect fit. In my experience, the laces compressed together and held in place throughout the day, not requiring any readjustments. The ankle boa is nice to really lock your foot in place when you are charging hard. There is a handy PowerCuff Strap for added support in the top portion of the boot, which in turn increases its responsiveness. It would be nice if the strap was a bit thicker for an added boost of power, but it works as is and gets the job done.

Having narrow heels, I usually have an issue with heel lift in my snowboarding boots. This was not the case with the Vans Ferra Pro. The V2 harness system locks your heel in without cutting of any circulation or causing discomfort.

These boots are extremely comfortable. The merino SmartWool liners keep you comfortably warm and dry throughout the longest days of riding. The dual-density V2 PopCush Footbeds support your arches and protect your feet from stomping those hard landings. The outsole of the boots are made to last, sporting the rubber V2 WaffleFlex technology. Although this boot is exceptionally comfortable and supportive, you are still able to feel your board underneath your feet.

The Vans Ferra Pro are a great choice for riders who are looking for a boot to lock your heel in place. They are a high performance yet stylish boot that has a nice price-point for how well made they are. The Vans Ferra Pro are for the intermediate-to-advanced rider looking to push herself all over the mountain.

Vans Ferra Pro Past Reviews

The Vans Ferra is kind of like the Women’s Version of the Infuse BOA……well kind of. Regardless it’s a boot that offers up strong heel hold but also excellent adjustability and dependability of traditional lace. It’s also a very well built boot.
