Positives
- Very Damp but Good Pop
- Great For Going Fast
- Excellent Construction
Negatives
- Not for those that like A Set Back Ride
Summary
The Prior Khyber has a more centered big mountain feel vs the Spearhead. It is more for those who like steeper terrain and to launch off natural terrain.Where To Buy

Approximate Weight
The Prior Khyber doesn’t feel heavy or light. Right in the middle. One thing we noted with all Prior boards is they are really well made so this is the perfect balance between weight and quality of construction. (We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight)
Sizing
The 160 felt just right for Peter and I. It has a very narrow tail so it works well with the I think going 165 would be too much unless we were looking to bomb everything or needed to float in really deep powder.
Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these boards. You can of course go bigger or smaller but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag.
150: 6.5-7.5
153: 7-8
156: 7.5-8.5
160: 8-9
165: 9-10
170: 10-11
Shape/Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level
The Prior Khyber has a pretty tapered and directional shape but it rides/feels less tapered on snow than the Spearhead we often rode the same day. Even though the Spearhead has less taper and a similar sidecut radius it felt more set back on board as well more turny to us vs. the Khyber. That isn’t good or bad but just our observation in the conditions we rode it.
The Prior Khyber has a very stable forgiving camber profile that has just enough camber to be fun to turn and just enough rocker in the nose/tail to be floaty and forgiving. It is very easy to one foot off the chair, flat base and skid turns when you get off your game. This has a very consistent personality underfoot in all conditions.
Edge Hold
The grip is pretty good. Not exceptional like some boards with more happening in the sidecut but it is very competent if you hit some hard patches on occasion.
Flex Personality
The Prior Khyber has a pretty medium/stiff flex between the feet but it is easier to flex in the tip/tail. There is this cool dampness to it that reduces chatter in just about any type of terrain you ride without feeling dead underfoot. There is good pop on an ollie too. Not exceptional but good for how damp it is.
Speed
You can point it with the Prior Khyber and all that taper doesn’t seem to affect its ability to go pretty fast for this flex. There is also good base glide too and it is almost there with some of our favorite boards.
Turning Experience/Carving
The Prior Khyber doesn’t seem to be as quick edge to edge or as turny as the Spearhead but for us it favored more high speed drawn out turns. Even though they have a very similar sidecut. It still isn’t bad if you want to circle carve or carve across the groomers. There is pretty solid spring out of the turn. I’ve for sure felt more spring but it is very satisfying.

Powder
So this has more taper than the Spearhead but less set back on board. In the 1.5’ of wet spring powder we had we liked more setback on board that the Spearhead had for the lower angle powder. The Prior Khyber is 3.5” back from center of board at a 21.6” stance width vs. 5.25” back with a 22” stance width on the Spearhead. However, if you are in steeper terrain you might prefer the Khyber’s more centered ride. This is no slouch by any means though and it can float really well for what it is
Switch/Pipe/Jumps
Switch landings are very doable and again you don’t feel the taper as much as you would think for the Prior Khyber. We also felt this tracked and landed really well with natural hits you want to launch off.
Conclusion
So while Peter and I both enjoyed the Spearhead more for the terrain we rode it in, that doesn’t mean the Prior Khyber might not be better for you than it was for us. If you like a more centered ride but still want a tapered air machine this could for sure work.
