How These Were Tested
I went out with my Union Atlas first on my Jones Mountain twin and then after a run switched to the Stone Destroyer. Then on another day I got on the Stone Grahm and rode these all day with that board.
Highback Flex
The highback seems to be the Force/Team highback from Union. It has a good twist and very little give pulling it straight back.
Flex Underfoot
The baseplate seems to be the same as the Force. It has EVA foam surrounding the disc and it does a great job for a full sized disc. It isn’t like the Strata or Contact Pro but it is right there or even a touch better than the force.
Turn Initiation/Response
The Stone Destroyer is a very responsive binding and it has that same medium/fast Union feel to it that I really like. It is sharp but not twitchy.
Shock Absorption
There is really good shock absorption happening here and it is upper tier for sure.
Boot Support
The Stone Destroyer is great for those that like a minimalist ankle strap but not for those that want support. I felt it a little on the uncomfortable side in uneven terrain and I liked the bigger strap from the Atlas or Force off piste or in uneven terrain.
Ratchets
The Stone Destroyer has excellent ratchets. You can crank em down hard (not that you should) and they pop free super easy.
Adjustability
The Stone Destroyer has all of the Union adjustability that I love. Most importantly, it has an adjustable heel loop and gas pedal. That means you can pretty much dial out every boot in the suggested size range to fit this binding perfectly. When you can do that you can turn the discs sideways to get your perfect stance width as well. Yes the disc is great for stance width adjustability as well. Wish their were tooless ankle and toe strap screws but you need a screw driver. High back rotation and forward lean is great too.
Conclusion
The Stone Destroyer has Union written all over it but that is far from being a bad thing. If you want a unique tweak on the Force but with a more minimalist/freestyle oriented ankle strap this could be a great choice. On top of all that is mentioned above it also comes at a very reasonable price.
