Summary

The directional twin shape and Camrock camber profile give the Yes Hel Yes Women's a friendly feel on groomers and hard-pack snow. It can easily turn through trees and handle bombing hills. If it’s a powder day, the slam back inserts turn this board into an intro-level directional board that will float through most conditions.

Approximate Weight

(We don’t put in the exact weight because, with wood cores, there is no consistency in a board’s weight)

Sizing

Yes Hel Yes Women’s Sizing

Sizing is all about balancing what fits your boot size and your weight for how you like to ride. If your boot is too wide, you can’t turn it; if it’s too narrow, you get the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag. Your weight is a close second to boot size because it determines how the board will feel under your foot. Height comes in a distant 3rd. Some prefer control, so matching the boot size is the priority. Others prefer dampness over control and like to size up.

Here are some idealUS boot sizes for these boards.

146-24.4cm (size 7)

149-24.7cm (size 8)

152-24.8cm (size 8)

155-25cm (size 9)

I would stay close to the brand’s recommended weight ranges for weight. If it comes down to boot size or weight, I would ensure it fits your boot first, and then your weight, a close second.

Shape

Yes Hel Yes Women’s Shape

The Yes Hel Yes Women’s is a Directional Twin Shape. When centered on the board, it rides like a true twin; if set on the Powder Slam Back inserts, the board rides like a directional board.

Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level

Yes Hel Yes Women's Camber
Yes Hel Yes Women’s Camber

The Yes Hel Yes Women’s has a directional positive camber that includes a CamRock of 2-3-2. This means that between the inserts is a mid-camber profile with reverse camber in the tip and tail. The camber gives this board a stable feel on snow and especially at speeds, while the early rise to rocker in the nose and tail keep it playful and able to charge through a variety of snow conditions. If sized correctly, this board would be appropriate for Intermediate to advanced riders. Sizing up will give this board a more aggressive feel for advanced or expert riders.

Edge Hold

Yes Hel Yes Women's Edge Hold
Yes Hel Yes Women’s Edge Hold

Yes snowboards use a form of disrupted edge known as underbite. This creates divots inward at the inserts under the bindings, increasing contact points during the initiation, arc, and unloading of a turn. I felt this disrupted edge the most with riding icy/hard pack conditions. Where a traditional edge would have blown out, the board seemed to hold on edge, even if it was unable to lock into the turns.

Flex Personality

Yes Hel Yes Women's Flex
Yes Hel Yes Women’s Flex

The Yes Hel Yes Women’s is rated at a 7/10 flex, making it the stiffest board in their women’s lineup. However, the camber profile allows the board to be easily manipulated and feels much softer than other women’s boards that are comparable in flex ranking.

Uneven Snow

The Hel Yes handles transitions for groomed to variable snow well, and if set back, can even mimic a directional board feel in deeper snow conditions.

Speed

This board is made for women who want to go fast while still having control. It easily lends itself to fast arching turns or straight-lining on groomers. However, the early rise in the nose and tail reduces the effective edge and can cause the board to wash out if a quick turn is needed at high speeds.

Base Glide

I have nothing but positive things to say about the Yes board’s base. They use a sintered true base that rides fast straight from the factory. However, with sintered bases, this board performs better when waxed regularly to match the conditions.

Turning Experience/Carving

The mid-camber between the feet gives this board a fast and responsive turning experience. It can transfer between short, quick turns to long, fast turns easily and has a nice pop coming out of a turn. I did find limitations in the Hel Yes’s ability to lock into deep carves and was unable to get an elbow down when attempting more traditional euro-carves. A directional board with a longer effective edge is recommended if carving is your primary goal.

Powder

Yes Hel Yes Women's Pow Setback
Yes Hel Yes Women’s Pow Setback

When set at a reference stance of 21 inches, the Slam Back inserts give the board an additional 2.165 inches from center of board. This transforms the board from a true twin to an entry-level directional board. With more nose comes more lift, which allows the Hel Yes to navigate powder much better than a traditional twin board. It is not a powder-specific board, but it can give the rider a taste of what a directional tapered board might feel like.

Switch/Jumps/Pipe/Jibs

When centered on the board, the Hel Yes rides switch easily. The camber and flex profile give the board a great pop from flat and from off the edge, making this board appropriate for park jumps and half-pipe. I tend to prefer softer boards on boxes and rails as they allow for more agility. If you are looking for a rail-specific board, true twins with a mid-soft flex tend to be better.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Yes Hel Yes Women’s is a wonderful option for ladies who want a one-board quiver. If you are a beginner rider who is comfortable connecting turns and wants to progress, or an intermediate rider who wants a board to do it all, consider the Hel Yes. If you are an advanced rider who wants a casual board for those variable days, sizing up in the Hel Yes can give you everything you are looking for.
