Rossignol Airis 2024 - 2023 Review by The Good Ride

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  We do make money from the “Where To Buy” links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average rider’s perspective.

How This Review Happened: We borrowed this from the company and sent it back.

Directional Twin

Size Tried:  143
Days:  On and off throughout the season
Conditions: We rode this throughout the whole season, so a little bit of everything. Mostly mid winter conditions.
Riders: Steph
Boots:
Vans Luna (Size W 7.5) K2 Cosmo (Size W 7.5)
Bindings: Union Legacy (Size M)
Set Up
: 20.5” Centered 15 front -15 back

Sizes Available: 143, 146, 149, 152

I felt the 143 fit my specs great if I want the Airis to be an all mountain freestyle board. If I want it to be more of an all mountain specific board, I would go for the 146.

Rossignol Airis Flex

Flex

The Airis comes with a 5/10 flex. A nice medium flex that keeps it feeling very maneuverable but gives it enough stability to ride all mountain without feeling too aggressive. Great for getting used to riding in more aggressive terrain but still taking it at a medium to fast speed. Not stable enough for charging really hard.

Rossignol Airis Camber Profile

Camber Profile Tip To Tail View

Camber Profile

The Rossignol Airis comes with Amptek All Mountain Rocker. Which has 50% positive camber between the feet and 50% rocker on the nose and tail. The positive camber is pretty mellow and adds just enough stability and grip to keep the Airis feeling connected to the snow but not catchy at all.

Sintered Base

Base

It comes with a Sintered 4400 Base. A durable and fast base as long as you keep it tuned up and waxed properly. I felt that it was pretty smooth feeling on the snow, but not the fasted gliding base out there. But pretty good for an Intermediate to Advanced board.

On Snow Feel

The Airis is quick to turn and pretty easy to figure out. It has a mellow on snow feel that is catch free but has just enough technical ability to ride all over the mountain in a mellow way.

Serrated Edge

Edge Grip

Rossignol’s 5S serrated edge gives the Airis really nice grip in icy terrain. Great for those riders trying to get used to riding scraped off snow or those that just want to make sure they have good grip in ice. The serrated edge helps make up for the 50% rocker profile that takes away some edge hold. This is a great icy conditions board for intermediate to advanced all mountain riders.

Blue Groomer Run

Turning Experience

The Rossignol Airis is quick and easy to turn. It offers a forgiving ride that also has nice stability and connection to the snow. The Airis prefers a skidded turn over a carve turn, but can dabble in carves if you want. It is stable up to a medium-fast speed. And does a great job at maintaining a reliable edge hold in all different snow conditions and terrain types.

Off Piste

This board is easy and fun to turn off piste. It is quick to turn, so it makes riding through trees pretty easy. The rocker helps if you are riding in softer snow, and it also helps it to feel catch free too. Again, more of a medium to medium fast speed board. So it isn’t the choice for charging hard off piste. But can handle just about anything in a more mellow way.

Powder Riding

Powder

It floats pretty well for being a directional twin. The 50% rocker helps out a ton in deeper snow. This board would be just fine for an average powder day. There isn’t too much directional float, but it has enough float to get by in average snow storms.

Furthest Set Back On Board

If you want to add a bit more float, you can move the bindings back and get up to 1.75″ of set back on board with a stance width of 20.75″ in the 143 size.

Airis JumpOff piste jump

Freestyle Personality

A pretty fun board for medium park features. It has a medium amount of pop, and is pretty stable in landings and on jumps. It is great for learning how to ride park or even developing park skills. Pretty friendly for boxes and rails too. And not bad for smaller half-pip riding. The edge hold is decent for icy pipe walls.

A fun freestyle choice for the intermediate to advanced rider.

Overall

The Rossignol Airis would be a great board for that intermediate to advanced rider looking for an all mountain freestyle ride. It handles great in icy conditions, and has a friendly flex and camber profile for a mellow catch free experience.
