Summary

The Never Summer Aura is similar to the NS Men's West and offers up a very similar ride. Just a touch more directional.  Other than a few very minor tweaks, not much has changed from the 2018 to the 2019 model. So the old review still stands.

Never Summer Aura Table Video And Written Review Review by The Good Ride

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  We do make money from the “Where To Buy” links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average rider’s perspective.

Approximate Weight

Feels normal but very sturdy.

On Snow Feel

The Aura has a feel much different than the other hybrid rocker boards they call Rocker & Camber. It’s got a stable feel very similar to hybrid camber. But it still has that snap in the tip/tail that hybrid rocker has.  Actually, even more, snap thanks to the camber.  It’s much easier to one foot off the chair and flat base.  The overall feel just says stable.  It solves the stability problems that the Infinity and Raven have with their more mellow camber.

Powder

It doesn’t really have much float centered. But we think that if it’s set back all the way and it’s the right size, it could have float that isn’t too taxing on the back leg. When set all the way back you can get about 3.75″ back on board which is pretty good.

Carving

The NS Aura is really is fun to lay into a hard carve.  You can really feel that extra camber pop you out of a turn. It gives you that traditional camber resistance going into a turn that makes hard carving turns soo much fun.

Turning

Wide to Medium radius turns are really fun too make. Short radius turns don’t really engage the camber as much as wider turns, so they feel a little less springy compared to the rest. The Aura can skid a turn pretty easy in tight spots or when you need to slam on the breaks.  It’s still mainly for Advanced to expert riders. It’s much more forgiving than a traditional camber board when you are off your game and have to skid out a turn. Also, you can turn this board with a much more surfy stance and still have loads of stability.

Speed

Now even though the flex and dampness rating on the site says it’s more mellow the extra camber and stability between the feet make this board feel faster and more aggressive than you would think. It holds it’s speed well in flat sections if it’s well waxed and it’s very “bomb a big hill” friendly.

Uneven Terrain

A real champ here and great for people that have to ride all day on a crowded Saturday.

Edge Hold

It’s got a good hold but it’s more on the bottom end of the hard rating.

Flex

Now the flex isn’t that strong but it could be argued that with the extra camber in the tip/tail makes for a board that takes more to butter and press. Our girls didn’t find it too easy to butter.  It took some effort and acted like a camber board does so if you are a stronger rider you might like that as it does have some nice snap after you exit the butter.

Switch

Much more doable than you would think for what they call a directional board.  When centered up it’s not perfect either way but very easy to get used to riding switch.

Jibbing

No thanks.

Pipe

Fun pipe board and it has a pretty good feel wall to wall.

Jumps

That extra camber and stable feel make the Never Summer Aura pop well on an ollie or nollie.  It’s also fun for kickers of any size. If you like to go big or just want a more stable approach for going medium or small the Aura is really good here.  It’s not as forgiving as the other NS boards if you are spinning as it can catch an edge easier but it can help you not land on your ass if you land more on the tail of the board thanks to the extra camber.

Overall

We are very impressed with the Never Summer Aura and find it to be a great all mountain ride.  The extra camber gives so much more spring in a turn and stability and solves the issues we had with their older rocker and camber profile ride.

Never Summer Aura 2016-2019 Snowboard Review – By Steph W SKU UPC Model

Love this board

After reading a million reviews, I was determined not to buy another snowboard without riding it first. I went to Totally Board in Truckee, CA and they let me demo the Never Summer Aura for a whole weekend. I have to tell you the first day I liked it, but I wasn't completely sold. It was great, but my back foot was too sticky. Meaning it wasn't effortless to slide the back foot from side to side like you need for short radius turns in a ravine. I was riding a pretty severe duck foot at +32 on my front foot and -17 on my back foot. Ryan at Totally Board suggested riding a more regular stance. He moved the back foot binding to a -6 and it made a world of difference. In fact it was so swishy that I changed it back to a -10 where I ride it all the time. I road the board for 2 days and then bought it. Totally Board took the full cost of the demo and applied it to the board.

I could not be happier. It rides so well. I can take it off trail into the crusty, icing like snow and it is easy to control and balance. I have had so many less falls riding this board. It completely saves me on a regular basis. It also rides very smooth at high speeds and performs so awesome in powder. Like enough control in powder with still the freedom all that snow brings. It performs very well in the trees.

I've been riding at Squaw Valley this summer because I can and in the slushy, uneven, quite variable terrain, it performs like a dream. I completely love this board. I highly recommend this snowboard and Totally Board in Truckee for their awesome customer service. Thanks Ryan and Dana!

I'd also like to thank Paula, the other reviewer, because her review got me to try this board! Thanks Paula!

Best board ever!

I got this board for Christmas and rode it for the first time this weekend. My board is a 146 and was a dream to ride. I love the way it looks but loved riding it even more! I have Burton Escapade bindings that fit it perfect. It doesn't have any chatter at fast speeds, carving is super easy and it's light. I ran through the park a few times and it handles jumps well, lots of spring and solid on landing. I felt like I had been riding this board forever, there was no pain in the transition to a new board. It was so easy to change edges and my legs were less tired than usual at the end of the day. I truly love this board and recommend it to anyone looking for a solid board to ride. Zero complaints!
