2019 Review

The Jones Twin Sister is one of the most recommendable one board quiver rides out there for those looking to do a little of everything. It’s great for those who want to ride centered on groomer or park days but have the ability to set it back a bit on board to get some good directional float to keep that back leg from burning in the deeper days. The Jones Twin sister puts out a very consistent feel underfoot in just about any condition you want to ride and that’s why we like it so much.

Other than the tweak to the core the 2018 and 2019 Jones Twin Sister is very similar to the 2017 model when it comes to overall ride. It’s just a little stiffer torsionally.

Approximate Weight: Normal to a little heavier than normal. You can tell you have a strong, well-made snowboard on your feet.

Flex/Buttering: 7/10 Flex on the Jones scale, not too bad to get the board on the nose or tail, but it takes a little patience and extra effort.

On Snow Feel: A nice stable feel on snow, real stable with one foot too. It’s not a super locked in feeling, semi-loose when turning or engaging your edge.

Edge Hold: Nice edge hold on hardpack and ice, and holds a line while in a turn or carve.

Turn Initiation: Medium to fast turn initiation, in some environments I found the Twin Sister a little slower to turn when I wanted to make last minute adjustments.

Turning Experience: The classic “Jones” feel, a more wide turning radius with a more sendy feel than other boards but still fun.

Carving: Not bad at carving turns, you can lay it over pretty good, but it just felt a little laggy sometimes.

Speed: Feels great going fast, has a nice stable feel when you are charging.

Uneven Terrain: Pretty good in bumpy snow.

Powder: It rides pretty good in powder. It’s a directional twin so you already get a little set back on board, and you can set the bindings back even more if you want. But it isn’t the quickest to turn in powder.

Switch: Rides switch great, just as well as normal.

Jumps: Very solid on jumps and landings, again it has a different feel to it than your average freestyle board. Would prefer more natural features than the normal park on this I think.

Jibbing: Not my favorite jibber, just a little stiff and not real quick for playing around.

Pipe: Not bad in the pipe, makes for a solid ride. But also less nimble than I would prefer my pipe board.

Overall: The Jones Twin Sister is a good choice for those riders who want a board that does a little of everything. It can ride all over the mountain and dabble in the park and rides well in powder as well.

2017 Review

2013-2016 Jones Twin Sister Review

The 2013-2016 Jones Twin Sister are pretty much the same ride although every year they do tweak it a bit with to make it a little better than the years past.

The Twin sister has the same personality as the men’s version but with women’s specific sizing. You always compromise when choosing one board for everything but this is one of the best one board solutions we have come across. It’s not best because it excells over all other all mountain boards but more because it’s ride is consistent in every condition you see and that’s a real confidence booster.

We all love the more pronounced camber along with the set back of -20mm that is just like the new upgrade men’s version.  It makes the Lady Twin recommendable for a much wider range of riders. No one had a bad thing to say about this board and everyone wanted it.  Needless to say it was the unanimous Good Ride Favorite in the All Mountain Category.

On Snow Feel: If you live to ride groomers and stay mostly on the mountain the new Lady Twin will make you very happy.  It’s also great with an all mountain freestyle or set back powder approach.  This is a very versatile board.

Powder: The -20mm setback and rocker in the nose/tail will be a little short of borderline excellent and do a great job in powder.  It will be easy to negotiate between trees and excellent on a narrow chute that might require tight turning. This is about as good as you can get for a directional twin and it falls a little short of the K2 High Lite.

Turn initiation/Carving- The turn initiation is right in the middle of the hybrid camber board world.  It felt pretty easy to make quick edge to edge turns but you are working harder than you would with the older version. Most of us actually liked that.It doesn’t have that loose feel that many mostly rocker hybrid camber boards have.  Carving is great and really fun to do for a board like this.

Speed: Great at almost any speed. If you were to compare this to other all mountain boards with a similar flex and base it would be excellent. However if you compare this to the Mothership it’s not as fast.  That’s why this has a rating of great instead of excellent.

Uneven Terrain: Very good at dealing with chop, hard bumpy side country snow and tracked out end of the day groomers.

Edge Hold: The Lady Twin has just the right amount of edge hold.  It inspires confidence in harder conditions and doesn’t over grip in soft snow. If you ride in icy conditions a lot it can hang but you would probably want something stronger like the Rossignol Diva.  For the rider who rides in hard to soft and everything but ice you will be more than happy with the edge hold of the Lady Twin.

Flex:  The Lady Twin is just a little shy of aggressive but still not that hard to butter if you feel inclined. It’s nowhere near as easy to jib or butter around as some of the other more freestyle focused mostly rocker hybrid camber boards out there but it isn’t bad for a board that focuses more on carving and mountain riding.

Switch: If you want to center up the stance and ride switch it’s still a directional twin that will almost ride like a true twin.  Because of the set back stance it won’t be as easy as a centered stance but it’s still pretty close. The only real difference you will notice when it’s centered is the flex isn’t the same in the tip and tail.  So if you ride switch a lot you might like a true twin with a centered stance but this isn’t bad for those that like to set back their board on powder days.

Jibbing Probably one of the only areas where it doesn’t do very well. You can have fun on little bonks and such but it’s no technical rail/jib board.

Pipe: So much fun in the pipe! it really climbs the pipe wall well.  If you keep the edges sharp the Lady Twin would be a great dedicated pipe board and it drives from wall to wall really well.

Jumps: The Lady Twin ollie’s pretty well and it’a about the same on the roller coaster line in the park.  It’s not as forgiving as many hybrid rocker boards because it’s right in between a mostly rocker hybrid camber board an a mostly camber hybrid camber board.

The Twin Sister is a pipe, powder, jump, groomer board that makes for a fun ride almost anywhere unless you are getting into serious jibbing.  It’s a great one board solution.
