Adidas Acerra 2019 - 2018 Review by The Good Ride
The Adidas Acerra is a very responsive and supportive boot. If you want a BOA boot with the same upper/lower adjustability as speed lace this will work. Most Double BOA’s don’t give you complete separation so it’s nice to see the Accera do this. The only issue is if you have bigger calves it can be a little tight across the top and the liner’s velcro can occasionally come loose. If that isn’t a problem for you and your calves the Adidas Accera offers amazing shock absorption, top-notch adjustability and a lot of response.
One thing to remember before watching this. The 2018-2019 Adidas Acerra runs about 1/4 to 1/2 size smaller than last year. I tried a 9 last spring but found out an 8.5 would have been a better fit. Based on the size 8.5 Accera 2018 I owned and 2019 I tested, I think a lot of the pressure points I had with the size 9 demo I tried went away. Nothing changed from the 2019 Adidas Acerra vs. the 2018 Model.

Fit/Sizing: Adidas boots run a bit on the wide side. They aren’t technically wide boots or anything like that but they seem to be more accommodating to people with medium feet to semi-wide. Even with my D/E width feet, there is still a little room on each side of the widest point of my feet. I found that the sizing changed a little bit this year. Before I felt like the 2017 line of Adidas boots fit was between 8.5 and 9. It was kind of like an 8.75. This year it seems like it got about 1/4 bigger inside so the 8.5 is a perfect fit for me this year where normally I’m a size 9 with most other boots out there. So with most sizing, like in the US, go down 1/2 size. I have heard from multiple people outside of the US that UK sizing is true so you don’t have to size down.
Flex: The Adidas Acerra has a pretty stiff flex that’s not quite pinning the dial against the stiff side of the scale but it’s definitely leaning pretty far over. 8 out of 10 seems about right to us.
Comfort: Really comfortable and like I said before with the change to the liner the fit changed. The 2017 Adidas boots fit better in size 9 for me but the 2018 line would have been much better with an 8.5 for me. All the little pressure point issues I had with the Tactical ADV went away when I sized down from 9 to 8.5 and it fit almost perfect. This would probably be the same for the Adidas Acerra.
Flex Retention: The Adidas Acerra is a huge improvement over the old Blauvelt and Energy Boost model. It’s got a great articulating cuff that really helps the boot retain it’s flex better than before. It’s right there with the Tactical now.
Footprint: So this is the interesting part. What we found with the 2017 line from Adidas is they are much smaller than almost any boot out there when it comes to 9.5 and under. As you get into the 10-12 range the boot’s footprint seems to even out or even get a little bigger than some of the industry leaders like Burton. Still, it’s very reduced and if you are normally a 10.5 you will probably be a 10 with the 2018 model.
Turn Initiation: The Adidas Acerra really turns a board well and even though it’s not the stiffest of the stiff it’s very responsive.
Shock Absorption: Adidas Energy Boost in snowboard boots changed the way I rate shock absorption. I haven’t found another boot without energy boost on the same level. I had to re-rate all my boot reviews after riding energy boost. What’s the best part about this tech is you don’t loose response.
Heel Hold: If you want the best in heel hold then go with a Focus BOA boot where the coils overlap around the ankle or where there is an inner and outer coil. You sacrifice a bit of heel hold to get adjustability but the heel hold is still really good. The bottom BOA stops just a bit above the ankle so I feel it holds better than most Burton Speed Lace but not quite as good some Double BOA systems.
Adjustability: Love the Adjustability here. I can leave the lower part a bit loose and tighten up the top without it overlapping around my ankle. I personally love this.
Traction: There is decent traction but that’s probably one area where I would like to see a little improvement.
On & Off Ease: BOA is super easy to get off and not quite as easy as speedlace to get on so it kind of evens out. It’s super quick on and off though.
All in all the Adidas Acerra is a massive improvement over the 2017 Energy Boost and Blauvelt. I’m glad both those boots are gone and the Acerra is here. It is very recommendable for those that want lots of response, a ton of shock absorption, a comfortable fit for most, a very reduced footprint and BOA. It ticks almost all the boxes and it’s a boot I would love to own.
