Smith Storm and Photochromic Lens Comparison In Low Light Written Review Review by The Good Ride
Smith Storm & Photochromic Lens Comparison – How They Actually Look In Low Light

Here is a Smith Storm and Photochromic Lens Comparison from the actual persepective of looking through the lenses.
How the Smith Storm & Low Light Lenses Were Tested:

I boutght these with hard earned Good Ride cash because I use all these lenses in my Smith 4D Mag Low Bridge Fit Goggles. Except for the new Chromapop Blue Sensor Mirror that I only have about 5 days on, I have used the rest of these lenses more days than I can count.
I shot this with my Samsung S25 Ultra in “Pro Mode” so I could fix the ISO, aperture and set the white balance to 5600k. You will only see a little shift because I did not fix the EV but overall it’s very consistent lens to lens.

Smith Chromapop Photochromic Rose Flash at 50% VLT – In Low Light

I find that this does just about as good as the Storm Rose Flash lens that comes with any goggle purchase when it’s really cloudy but what I found with all Photochromic lenses is whenever the sun breaks through the clouds it gets a little too dark. That being said, this lens does it the least.
Smith Chromapop Photochromic Red Mirror 20-40% VLT – In Low Light

This is my least favorite lens for low light riding and Its just not that great for my eyes as well as most eyes out there. I wouldn’t get this as a one lens solution. Instead it’s great for varied bright to medium/low light situations.
Smith Chromapop Storm Rose Flash 50% VLT

You get this lens for free so it makes it hard to be critical and I feel it’s very good for a free options to give you a 2 lens quiver. It’s my least favorite full time storm lens but I do like it better than the Photochromic options and it’s better than most storm lenses you get for free with other brands.
Smith Chromapop Storm Blue Sensor Mirror 55% VLT

This is great for low light days like you see in this pic and it’s very good in really white out conditions but not quite as good as Storm Yellow Flash for most eyes. I do like it better in overcast to stormy conditions than the Storm Rose Flash and both Photochromic options.
Smith Chromapop Storm Yellow Flash 65% VLT

The Storm Yellow Flash Lens is exceptional for my eyes when it comes to bringing countour to snow in really low light conditions. It really steps it up from the Storm Blue Sensor Mirror and Storm Rose.
Smith Chromapop Storm Clear 89% VLT

This is my favorite lens for early stormy mornings when it’s still mostly dark, super white out conditions, and night riding. It’s tough on the eyes in any other conditions.
All Smith Low Light Friendly Lenses Compared

Final Thoughts
There is no right answer here when it comes to Smith’s low light friendly lenses. You can go Photochromic if you only want one lens but it comes with the drawback of getting a little to dark in varied light.
