Durability
The LARQ Bottle is made with Electropolished 18/8 stainless steel. And it has a powder coating on the outside to help prevent scratches. The UV-C light is powered by a lithium-polymer battery, that is supposed to last for basically forever. The usb connection in the bottle top is waterproof. So you don’t have to worry about damaging it when you fill it up. The UV-C light and battery is rated to last for >100,000 cycles.
Functionality
The LARQ Bottle is very easy to use, all you have to do is fill it up, screw on the lid and push the button on the top and it does the rest for you. If you double tap the top it goes into adventure mode. Adventure mode extra purifies the water for backpacking or drinking from a less potable water source.
There is zero plastic that touches your water, and you never have to replace a filter. Plus one full charge can last up to one month of use.
The LARQ Bottle says it keeps water cold for 24hrs and hot for 12. I tested this out, and it was a very accurate time frame for both hot and cold temps.
It doesn’t filter the water, so if you are filling it up in a river, you either need to filter out any solid particles or find some fast moving water that is fairly clear of any particles.
The purification process gets rid of 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses in Adventure Mode.
If you aren’t using the bottle you can hold the button down for 5 seconds and it will lock it so it won’t purify until you unlock it.
Overall
The LARQ Bottle is a very neat alternative to a traditional water purification process. You don’t need any replacement filters, and it holds a charge for up to a month. I like that it has adventure mode for camp trips and it looks great too!
The Grayl Geopress is the big brother to the Grayl Ultralight water purifier. It filters and removes just about everything you could think of that could be contaminating your water.
