Summary

The Rome Vinyl Rocker is more than a park board.  It has an all-mountain aftertaste. Vinyl Rocker was a fun board but we would have liked to see Rome incorporate the sidecut that the Rome Gold has to have better edge hold and be more fun to carve out a turn. The Vinyl Rocker is more than your average park board and is one of the better flat/rocker twins we have ridden and a good do everything twin.

Rome Vinyl Rocker Snowboard Video and Written Review Review by The Good Ride

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  We do make money from the “Where To Buy” links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

On Snow Feel: Pretty loose between the feet and it’s not one of the easier boards to one foot or flat base. It’s very playful and forgiving but its medium flex makes it a little more of an all mountain freestyle board than it’s loose feeling would lead you to believe.

Powder: As far as a twin is concerned the Vinyl Rocker did a pretty good job. The flat between the feet plains well and the rocker keeps you afloat.  It’s not going to blow minds like some bigger rocker twins but it’s better than a camber board and some flat camber boards.  If you like to take a freestyle approach to the mountain and know how to keep your speed up to plane over the powder you will love this twin.

Turn Initiation and Carving-Like many flat/rocker boards the turn initiation isn’t super easy but it’s not hard by any means either.  We actually prefer this to the ultra-easy feeling to turn many hybrid rocker or continuous rocker boards create.  You can make short quick turns or long carving turns.  The long carving turns were ok but would have been a lot better with the quick rip side cut.

Speed: Again another surprise here.  We expected stability between the feet but the board is pretty damp for a park twin.  This was a lot of fun as we expected less for a board of this type.

Uneven Terrain: really good for handling all kinds of snow you encounter at the end of a crowded Saturday.

Weight– Not super light but pretty light.

Edge Hold: Would have loved to have quick rip here.  With quick rip, you can grip an icy pipe wall or hang on to really hard snow and when it’s soft it’s not overly grippy.  However, they don’t have quick rip and the ride is just on the middle side of good.  So don’t expect much as the conditions start to firm up.

Flex: The flex is soft enough to butter but not so soft that you can’t deal with a little speed.  Very fun balance.

Switch: This centered stance true twin is incredibly easy to ride either direction.

Jibbing– The Vinyl Rocker is not a dedicated jib board but it does a good job for its flex and riding.  You can slide across most rails and deal with most jibs. If you are serious about the Jib park then get something else but if you like everything in the park the Vinyl Rocker isn’t bad.

Pipe: Something was off here but it wasn’t terrible. Usually, boards that don’t carve very well don’t handle the pipe and this was no exception.  Still, it’s not terrible by any means and you can have a lot of fun in the pipe on softer days.

Jumps: When it comes to pop there isn’t a tremendous amount but you can get a pretty good ollie going with a little bit of work.  When hitting the rollercoaster park the Vinyl Rocker stomps everything.  It’s very stable and predictable when launching and landing in the park.

Overall we were very impressed with the Vinyl Rocker and like the way, it rides everywhere. Not to hammer this home but we wish Rome would give the women Quick Rip on all their rocker boards.
