Weston Revel Written Review Review by The Good Ride

Size: 148
Days: 5
Conditions: Deep west coast powder, normal mid season snow conditions, a little hard pack.
Riders: Steph (5’3″, 108lbs, W7.5 Boot)
Boots: Vans Luna
Bindings: Union Legacy
Set Up: Centered 15 front -15 back 20.5″ wide
Sizes Available: 143, 148, 153
I felt the 148 was fine for me in deeper snow, but I think the 143 would fit my specs perfectly. Based on my weight, boot size, and height, it would make the board more responsive for me in harder snow conditions.
Approximate Weight: Feels normal
Waist Width
The Revel comes with a wider waist width than normal, this helps create more surface area on the snow and aids in more float in powder.
The wider waist width helps in powder, but it does make the Revel turn medium fast on harder snow instead of quick to turn like it is in deep snow.
Camber Profile
It comes with a set back positive camber profile, and has a large directional nose with rocker. The contact points seem to go into the swallow tail, which keeps the tail engaged for longer when riding on groomers and hard pack.
Base
This board has a high quality sintered base for fast glide in a lot of snow conditions. It has a Sintered Durasurf 4001 base.
Flex
5/10 flex, but I think with the wider waist width it feels a bit more stiff than 5/10. Maybe more like a 6 or 6.5. But the nose is softer than the middle of the board where the positive camber arc is.
This keeps the Revel stable at higher speeds, when riding through choppy snow, and keeps it snappy on jumps and in carves.
Powder
The Weston Revel comes with all the right things to make a great floating board in deep snow. 25mm of taper, and pronounced swallow tail, a directional shape, and a big rocketed nose.
I found the Revel to float with minimal effort in some very deep west coast powder. The tapered swallow tail sinks into the snow offering a type of rudder when turning and also has good stability. The nose kept on top of the snow, and when it did dive under for a second, it came right back up.
It is fun to make quick surfy turns, or just straight line through the deep snow.
The Revel is already very directional. But if you move the bindings all the way back you can get up to 9.5″ of setback on board with a stance width of 21.25″ on the 148 sized board.
Steeps
It handled well in steeps, in both deep powder and normal snow conditions. It turned quicker for me in steep terrain than on normal blue groomer runs. The medium flex keeps it nice and stable, and the positive camber has a nice edge hold in ice or harder conditions.
Off Piste / Trees
In powder, the Weston Revel turns very quickly through tight trees and off piste terrain with minimal effort. I think that was my favorite environment to ride this board in.
When the snow gets a bit harder, the Revel takes a bit more effort to turn through trees or in moguls. I think this is mostly due to the wider waist width. The larger, directional nose is a little difficult to manage in larger moguls. But again, handles great if the snow is soft.
But overall, it handles well off piste.
Groomers / Carving / Turning Experience
Taking the Revel to groomers was a lot of fun. The wide waist width, stability and positive camber made for some fun carving. It was fun to ride through the entire arc of the carve and push the board towards the tail. The positive camber brings good energy into and out of turns as well.
The 148 felt a bit wide for me on groomers, and I think sizing down to the 143 would make it quicker to turn and would fit better with my specs.
Freestyle Personality
This isn’t the type of board you’d take through a terrain park. But it has enough playfulness to jump off of wind lips, rock drops, or mess around in freeride terrain. I liked how much energy I could get from the board off natural jumps, The landings were nice and stable as well.
This isn’t a board to ride switch on, so taking off and landing switch would be challenging. But it is fun to get creative with regardless.
Overall
The Weston Revel would make a great powder board for those who see some deep days. It can handle not only powder, but some hardpack and icy conditions as well. This board would fit well with a high intermediate to expert rider who is looking for a directional, tapered, swallow tail ride. And it also comes in a split board option.
