Summary

The Back Slash from Telos is a volume shifted powder board with a set back camber, a wide rocketed nose, and a slight fish tail. The Back Slash also comes in a splitboard! It likes deep powder days, backcountry missions, and carving up groomers.

Telos Back Slash Women's Snowboard Written Review Review by The Good Ride

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews and this is our unfiltered opinion. We do make money from the “Where To Buy” links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average rider’s perspective.

How This Review Happened: We borrowed this for an extended demo.
Size: 143
Days: 3

Conditions: Deep California powder day, off piste cruddy snow, normal groomers

Riders: Steph (Weight 108lbs, 5’4″, 7.5 Women’s Boot Size)

Boots: Vans Ferra Pro (7.5 Women’s)

Bindings: Union Milan(Med)

Set-Up: 20″ Wide Stance, 15, -15 degree binding angles

Sizing: 143, 148, 153, 158

I love that the Back Slash is available in a 143! Even though it is a volume shifted board, I was able to ride this board and feel good on it. However I feel like my “volume shifted” size is more around a 138 because of my weight (108lbs).

Waist Width: Because the Back Slash is meant to size down from your normal size, it has a wider waist width. So the 143 comes with a 260mm waist width. This helped a lot when I was riding through deep powder, and also when carving. But when riding normal on groomers it was a bit slower to turn for my boot size (7.5W).

Flex: The Back Slash comes with an 8/10 flex. Which surprised me, because I didn’t feel like it rode super stiff. I think because it isn’t super stiff torsionally, so I was still able to twist the board with minimal effort.

Camber Profile: This board comes with a set back positive camber, with rocker on the nose. It looks like a pretty mellow amount of camber as well. This keeps it feeling not so locked in while riding.

Powder: I rode the Telos Back Slash on a pretty decent powder day. It floated really well. The small size kept it maneuverable, but the wide waist width, taper, directional nose, and fish tail all had a hand in helping it float.

Off Piste / Trees: I mainly ride in the trees when riding powder. And I had a lot of fun on the Telos Back Slash off piste. As long as the snow was soft it turned really well for me. If I ducked into the trees on a firm snow day, it took a bit of effort to get it to turn quickly. ( I’m thinking due to the wide waist width).

Steeps: The Back Slash handles well on steeps. It still seems to like a wider turn radius. The Back Slash felt stable and turn quickly for me in steep terrain, but I couldn’t make super small turns with out a lot of effort. It liked to have a larger turn.

Carving: The mix of the multi radius sidecut, wide waist width, stiffer flex and positive camber make for a fun board to carve. I felt better carving the Back Slash at a medium to fast speed. I didn’t get a ton of energy back from the positive camber, but it was still a very solid board for carving.

Edge Hold / Ice: The Telos Back Slash doesn’t have any sidecut disruption, but it stayed grippy in hard and icy conditions. At least the conditions I rode it in. It may not be as grippy as a board with disruption along the edge. But it will do fine in most icy conditions.

Who Is This For?

The Telos Back Slash would be good for a rider who wants a smaller board but doesn’t want to loose performance on groomers and float in powder. It would be good for a rider who has a wider boot, or a heavier rider who wants good stability without having to size up to a bigger board. Someone who likes to carve, find pow stashes, and cruise through steeps. The Back Slash could fit well for an intermediate rider up to expert rider.
