Sizing

The Forma is a short fat board. It has a 255mm waist width, which is huge for my 7.5 boot and is available in sizes 144 and 153. I tested the 144. I still felt it was a bit big for me (my preferred board size is a 142) Maybe if I had this in a 138 it would be a ton of fun! This board would be good for someone a bit bigger than me, or a rider who has a bigger boot size as well.

Flex/Buttering

The Forma is rated to have a medium to soft flex. I felt it was more medium-stiff for me. Not sure if this was because I needed a smaller size, or the waist width that made it feel a bit stiff. The nose felt a bit softer, and I could butter it somewhat if I got it up on the nose.

On Snow Feel

The Forma comes with positive camber between the feet, and elongated nose that has a more drawn out rocker, and a swallow tail that has a bit of rocker as well. It feels very stable on the snow, and when riding flat based. It doesn’t require you to be on your game at all times, but I felt like it was semi-locked into the snow.

Edge Hold

It held a nice edge in ice, the positive camber helps with this. I preferred it in softer snow however. Not because of the edge hold, but because it turned quicker for me in softer snow. I think the wider waist width made it feel slower to turn in hard/icy conditions for my 7.5 women’s boot.

Turn Initiation/Turning Experience

In hard pack and ice the Forma felt medium fast to turn. It preformed better for me at medium to fast speeds. In softer groomers and powder it responded much quicker and was a lot more fun for me to turn. I found it quick to turn in powder and easy to maneuver.

The Forma is very fun to carve. It can hold a stable line through the carve and gives energy back out of the turns. I could tell it had a much wider waist width when tipping it into a high edge angle for carving, so it took a little more effort to start the turn. But once up, it did the rest for me and held a very nice carve line.

Skidded turns were medium easy to make. It is semi locked in so it likes those higher edge angles and I felt it liked to ride a bit faster as well. So when riding slower, skidded turns took a little more effort, but when riding it faster they were easier to initiate.

Speed

The Forma felt nice and stable for me at higher speeds. It comes with a sintered base as well to keep it gliding fast.

Uneven Terrain

In softer snow, and in powder I really enjoyed the Forma off piste and in bumpy terrain. I felt like it handled well. I especially enjoyed it when turning through trees in powder. The swallow tail and super directional float allowed the board to turn and pivot quickly.

Powder

This was a great powder board. It comes with a ton of set back on board, taper, as well as the directional shaped nose and swallow tail. The drawn out rocker in the nose, and the super wide waist width kept the board floating in deep snow with minimal effort.

Switch

Well…it is super directional in a lot of different ways. But the swallow tail does have a bit of rocker in it and allows for a little switch riding in a pinch as long as it is hard pack.

Jumps

The Forma has good stability for jumps and side hits, or for dropping off a natural feature. It has that wide waist width that will help when landing in deep snow, and has nice pop from the positive camber as well.

Jibs

Not ideal for jibbing.

Pipe

I think this board would be super fun in a slushy spring pipe or quarter pipe. You could make some fun slashy/surfy turns.

Overall

The Forma from Season was a pretty dynamic freeride style board. I didn’t feel like the sizing was doing me any favors, but if you are bigger than me (which most everyone is) then it could be a fun directional ride. This board would be ideal for that advanced to expert rider who likes carving hard on groomers and enjoys a nice directional ride on deep powder days. It does great through trees, steeps, off piste in soft snow. It likes to carve a hard line, or make slashy turns on side transition zones or all over the mountain.
