Summary

The Never Summer Women's Proto Synthesis is an all mountain freestyle twin that comes with Never Summer's Shockwave Rocker Camber. The new camber has a more elongated rocker section between the feet, and camber outside of the bindings. It comes with a 6/10 flex and a sintered base. The new Proto Synthesis is replacing the old Proto Type Two. No more Asymmetry like the Proto Type Two had, and comes with the updated Shockwave camber profile.

On Snow Feel

The Proto Synthesis felt stable and somewhat connected to the snow, while at the same time having that looser hybrid rocker feel to it. The board flexes into almost a positive camber profile when you weight it, and when you un-weight you get the benefit of the rocker again.

Turning

The Proto Synthesis is a very responsive board that is quick to turn. It however, doesn’t mess around. The Proto Synthesis is dynamic and powerful and has a great feel when engaged in a turn, and there is a lot of energy out of the turns as well. The slight rocker in the middle of the board allows the Proto Synthesis to twist with minimal effort, making it very responsive. But it is also very stable at the same time. It is quick to respond when making tight turns through trees or in moguls. It can make small radius skidded turns on steels and bigger more carve turns on groomers as well.

Carving

My favorite part of the Proto Synthesis is how it carves. I was able to ride it on some sweet Breckenridge groomers and I couldn’t stop carving on it. It has a great connection to the snow, amazing stability, and a ton of energy out of the carves. It is really an amazing carving board for being a true twin all mountain freestyle board.

Jumps/Park

Loved this board on jumps! The amount of energy you get back from the Proto Synthesis is amazing. It takes a little effort to bend the board if you are on flat ground, but when hitting jumps it really can launch you into the air. Landings are very stable as well. This board is more for the established park rider. It isn’t very forgiving if you make a mistake or come down a little off center. But it makes a great technical park board.

The Proto Synthesis would be a ton of fun in the halfpipe. None of our pipes were open when I had this board to demo, but it has all the right components for making a solid pipe board.

As far as jibs go, it would be good for an intermediate to advanced jibber. It can lock into rails and likes the bigger features. It wouldn’t be ideal if you are new to jibbing, as it is not too forgiving.

Powder

The Proto Synthesis is ok in powder and softer snow, but there are many better boards out there for this. It rides powder pretty well for being a twin. And the slight rocker between the feet helps with this as well. But it may be better as the every day driver and then trading it out for a more powder specific board when it dumps.

Overall

If you like a hybrid rocker profile in a board, but want something that has positive camber benefits, the new Women’s Proto Synthesis might be something to look into. This board can handle all mountain riding as well as park riding and off piste. It is quick to turn and has a lot of energy and stability. It likes carving, going fast and riding the mountain top to bottom through an advanced freestyle lens.
