Positives

  • Exceptional Float For A Twin
  • Good Wide Mtn Freestyle Twin

Negatives

  • Bucky In Soft Uneven Snow

Summary

The Capita, Spring Break Powder Twin, is a unique ultra-floaty, super-wide twin that makes the switch and centered stance powder riding super easy for kooks like us.

Update 2025: The Capita Spring Break Powder Twin 2021 hasn't changed enough to warrant a re-do of the review, so this review from 2021 still stands. There have only been some minor upgrades to the base and core, but the shape, camber profile, and overall ride are almost exactly the same.

Capita Spring Break Powder Twin Written Review Review by The Good Ride

How the Capita Spring Break Powder Twin rides and who it is for

Capita Spring Break Powder Twin

How it Was Tested

We spent our precious Good Ride dollars to buy and review the Capita Spring Break Powder Twin.
Size: 159 & 156
Days: 3
Conditions: Some slackountry time is in about 2′ of powder in most places with drift boards. There were some occasional wind-affected patches with ice underneath. After this review, I put more time into it. I had One day on groomers just for shits and gigs and a moderate pow day with 8″ on the 156.
Riders: James (Size 9, 5’10” 185-190lbs)
Boots: Burton Tourist
InsolesF.I.T. Gamechangers
Bindings: Union Expedition with quiver discs.

Similar Boards (but not the same): YES 20/20,

Set-Up: 21.5” Wide. 15 front, -15 back. Centered

Approximate Weight: Feels a little heavy for its length but not for its width.

(We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores, there is no consistency in a board weight)

Sizing

Here are some ideal US boot sizes for the Capita Spring Break Powder Twin boards. Of course, you can go bigger or smaller, but these work best for turning the board faster than it should be and avoiding the dreaded Toe and heel Drag.

156: 8-9 for pow. 11-12 for a daily driver

159: 9-10 for Pow 11.5-12.5 as a Daily Driver

162: 10-11 for Pow. 12-13 as a Daily Driver

Shape/Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level

Capita Spring Break Powder Twin Shape

You have a true twin underfoot, and that is why it’s called Capita Spring Break Powder Twin.

Camber

There is a little camber between the feet that goes to a small flat transition area and then to a mellow but long rocker in the nose/tail. It makes the Capita SB Powder Twin a very wide, stable, floaty twin. It is easy to skid turns, but the width makes it more challenging if the boot size is on the smaller side, like my size 9s. If you have big feet, then it will be easy to manage.

Flex/Pop/Buttering

The medium/stiff flex makes Capita Spring Break Powder Twin seem like it could handle more than the max weight recommendation. Despite that, med/stiff flexing, the rocker after the bindings, makes it easier to butter than you would think. There is also a snappy pop to it.

Speed

The base has an easy glide, and it’s much better than the Spring Breaks I rode before they changed up the base in 2020. The Capita Spring Break Powder Twin is also pretty damp, so it can point really well for a twin with so much rocker. It minimizes the clown shoe effect.

Uneven Terrain

I didn’t get much uneven terrain but the Capita Spring Break Powder Twin has the flex and dampness to keep micro bumpy snow of most types from sending the chatter up into your joints.

Edge Hold

Good, but not great. I didn’t have much hard snow but did find an icy patch or two in the trees (you can hear one in the intro), and it held well enough not to slide me onto my ass.

Turn Initiation

The Capita Spring Break Powder Twin is a super wide board, so it isn’t easy to initiate a turn, but the deep sidecut makes it easier to turn in the trees than I thought. Still, I would hate to have to turn through a bump line or through some really tight trees, etc. If you are a 12-13, the 159 will turn as it should and maybe even touch on the fast side.

Turning Experience/Carving

Haven’t tried it yet.

Powder

So, getting a twin to float like a tapered directional board is very difficult. The Capita Spring Break Powder Twin does it, though, and that is no easy task. For my specs (check above) it just kept me on top of the snow regular or switch and made my run in knee high powder feel super easy.  It is about the best I have ever seen any twin ride. You don’t set this back. Just ride it centered in powder and have at it. If you are a bigger-footed rider who is pretty heavy/big, then this will probably not float for you as it did for me.

Conclusion

So the combo of width and a really deep sidecut makes this a super fun powder twin for a guy with my specs, and I think this also could be a pretty fun mtn freestyle twin for a bigger-footed rider too.
