Summary

The Capita Horrorscope is a really well built flat to rocker park ride that has most its strength in the jib park but can still hang outside of it.  The Ultrafear/Scott Stevens was just a touch more our preference for a jib specific ride but at this price point its a great call.

Capita Horrorscope 2019 - 2017 Review by The Good Ride

Other than a slight tweak to the base the 2019 Capita Horrorscope is pretty much the same ride as the 2018 so this review still stands.

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  We do make money from the “Where To Buy” links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

Size: 149 and 155
Days:  30+ (Zobel owns one)
Conditions: All kinds of spring conditions from slush to messy to good/medium snow.
Riders: James, Jimbo, Matt
Boots: Burton SLX, Burton AMB, Burton Rover,
Bindings: Burton Cartel, Burton GenesisUnion Contact, Union Contact Pro.
Set Up: Centered, 22.5 with Burton bindings to almost 23″ with Union bindings.  The Burton Re:Flex discs can’t slide from tip to tail to micro adjust.

Approximate Weight: Felt normal for its size.

On Snow Feel: Flat to rocker has been around for a long time and it used to be thought of as a cure-all/do everything type of camber profile. For us, it always felt lacking on the mountain compared to other hybrid profiles that had camber in it.  However, the Horrorscope has no illusions of being a one board quiver but instead wants to be a jib focused board that can also hang in other places in the park. It does that very well. It’s got a pretty stable and forgiving feel to it. The flat between the feet has more stability than rocker between the feet and it makes it easy on one foot.

Flex: Every Horrorscope we tried was almost too easy to butter.  The 2018 model feels even softer and playful than past models we tried.  The past models felt super easy buttery playful flex that feels med/soft across the board but also has a snappy feel to it as well. What is interesting is on Capita’s site they rate the flex as a 4 out of 10 and that might be so but on snow, it felt stiffer than the Ultrafear 151 (5.5 flex rating) and Scott Stevens Pro (5 flex rating) I rode.  They might flex stiffer off the snow but on snow, I felt the tip and tail flex way easier with the Ultrafear and Scott Stevens than the Horrorscope.  Don’t get me wrong they are all really easy to flex between the feet and on a butter but the Horrorscope felt like it had a slightly stiffer flex on snow.

Turn Initiation:  Pretty quick edge to edge but slower than you would think of a board of this size.  It feels more like a 153 or 154 which is a good thing because it’s not going to be twitchy when paired up with mellow boots and bindings.  It’s a wider platform underfoot and it has an easy stable approach to features in the park.

Turning Experience: Not bad for a short flat to rocker ride but still kind of boring.  If you want something similar but much more fun to turn then check out the

Skidded Turns: Super easy to skid turns and it is not very catchy.

Carving: Not a carver.  In soft snow, if you are careful you can lay out a mellow tentative carve and it’s not as washy as you would think but man it’s a far cry from the Outerspace Living if you like to lay into a carve regular or switch in good snow.

Powder:  We only had slush but look it’s a small board (149) and a twin so I’d hate to be out on this in 3 feet of snow but it does well for its size.  This is for the park

Speed: Not a fast board but all the speed you need for small to medium park features.

Uneven Terrain: Capita doesn’t have a lot of dampening going on with the board like some other companies.  They have been known recently for making lite and poppy feeling boards.  The Capita Horrorscope toes the Capita line.  However, it’s softer flex, smaller size, and easy turning makes for an easy ride in the messy shit.

Edge Hold: Not much edge hold going on and in the harder morning snow it wasn’t that confidence inspiring.

Switch:  Other than an asym twin there isn’t much better for riding switch.  Also if you aren’t perfectly ducked out then this would be better than an asym twin.

Jibbing: I’m not a strong jibber but this was a confidence-inspiring ride that made me want to take my surgery filled body through a few jibs. Matt and Jimbo had a lot of fun here with the Capita Horrorscope.  It had a slightly stiffer version of the Ultrafear going for it.  It can jib all day.

Pipe: We didn’t have any pipe to go in but it seems like if it’s small and soft it would be ok.

Jumps: Doesn’t have springs but it pops pretty well for a flat to rocker board.  One day riding this we compared it to the Outerspace Living and Yes Jackpot. Both popped way better than the Horrorscope but it’s not dead underfoot.  It’s got a stable approach to small to medium kickers and it didn’t feel washy on an off landing but the DOA or Outerspace Living would be a better call if you want to lap the jump park.

All in all the Horrorscope does a good job for what it is and could be a good call for those that mostly ride the jib park but also want something that isn’t completely incompetent in other places around the park.

Super fun to ride, pops like a dream and for the price it's amazing but i've been having some problems with it, the topsheet is chipping a lot (small chips here and there) and i've rode it only 5 times but it's still worth it, maybe it's just faulty board but for me it's still worth the buy. By the way that board rips trough the woods it's not even funny
