Volcom Superior TDS 2015 Review by The Good Ride

The Volcom Superior TDS Jacket is a well made mid-level jacket that provides a good bit of insulation as well as average waterproofing for those that ride in dry but colder climates.

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

Size Tried: Large
James’ Specs:
Height: 5’10”,
Weight: 195 lbs,
Chest 44”
Torso Length (collarbone to pant line) 23”
Shoulder Width (widest point of shoulders) 22”
Arm Length (pit to wrist) 19.5”
Turn On’s: Size L Jackets that fit well around my chest, Riding with Friends, Open Roads, new gear and my wife.
Turn Off’s: Size Jackets that don’t fit well around my chest, traffic and people who can’t park inside the lines.

Fit: As you can see it was a little long in the sleeves for me but fine in the shoulders.  For Stephen, it looked like a much better fit overall for him than me. Stephen is 6’4″ so you can see the difference 6″ makes…Insert joke. I gave this to Stephen because it fits him so well.

Construction: Really well made and a really good fit. The 4 pockets fit really well too.

Hood: Love that almost every Volcom Jacket goes with a contour instead of articulating hood and it really contours around your goggles to help block out the elements from your face.

Insulation/Warmth: Love this terrain mapping but the fleece can be a little sticky with certain 1st or 2nd layers.  Still, it’s got a warm feel to it that I personally liked.  It feels warmer than it’s thickness and that’s a good thing. It felt just as warm as the Volcom Captains Insulated Jacket even though it had less insulation.

Waterproofing: Not bad waterproofing but for a jacket almost $300 I’d like to see 15k waterproofing.  Still, it handled a few wet snow days pretty well.

Breathability:  I didn’t feel like it breathed super well but I’d agree with the rating of 10k

Overall: The Volcom Superior TDS Jacket and I also love the jacket to pant zipper interface that all Volcom outerwear has.  It really seals you up well.
