Patagonia PowSlayer 2013 Review by The Good Ride

The Patagonia Powslayer jacket is their flagship jacket with all their tech and for that rider who lives to ride the backcountry and also loves riding all over the mountain.

Size Tried: Large
James’ Specs:
Height: 5’10”,
Weight: 195 lbs,
Upper Body-:44” Chest, Torso Length 23” (collar bone to pant button), Shoulder Width Approx 22”, Arm Length 19.5” (pit to wrist)
Lower Body: 33” Waist, 42” Hips, 30” Inseam,  24.5” Thigh
Turn On’s: Size L Jackets that fit well around my chest, size M pants that fit well around my thighs so I can get in and out of my pockets, open roads, Surfy Powder Turns, Riding with Friends, new gear and especially my super-hot super smart super funny wife.
Turn Off’s: Size L Jackets that don’t fit well around my chest, super tight Size M Pants that I can’t get up over my thighs, traffic and people who can’t park inside the lines.

Fit: This has a little more of a tighter fit than many of the Patagonia Jackets but it’s still not super tight.

Construction: Patagonia knows

Hood: I personally love the contour hood because it can protect your whole face better than most or all articulating hoods.   I just love how they fit around the goggles so well and protect all of my face from the elements.

Insulation/Warmth: None here.  This is just a barrier between wind and weather.

Waterproofing: 3 Layers and Gore-Tex is pretty bombproof.

Breathability: Now Gore-Tex doesn’t quite have the breathabilty that it does compared to waterproofing but it does regulate moisture from inside pretty well.

Overall:  The Patagonia Powslayer is a direct competitor to the Burton AK 3L Freebird and has the same stretchy light weight fabric. To most of us at The Good Ride the Burton Freebird is the call because it’s always nice to be loyal to a company that is 100% snowboarding but if the color or fit is right for you this could be a great jacket and they do cater to snowboarders as well as skiers.
