K2 Ender 2022 - 2014 Review by The Good Ride
The K2 Ender is pretty warm with great construction and a great fit that works with most feet. It’s a very recommendable boot for those who like the adjustability and comfort that this traditional lace boot has but still want a snug fit around the ankle.
Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews. No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.
Days: 2
Size Tried: 9
Riders: James
Insoles: Footprint Insole Technology Gamechangers
Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Superpro, K2 Formula, Union Strata
Boards: Rossignol Jibsaw, Lib Tech Box Knife, K2 Broadcast,
James’ Foot Specs
Foot Size: 9 US
Foot Width: Right and Left are both D bordering on E
Arch Length: Right 9.5 and Left 9
Calves Circumference (top of boot): 17”
Calves Circumference (bottom of the boot): 12”
Sizing: Runs about 1/2 size big so buy 1/2 size smaller than your actual shoe size. I’m a true 9 and the 8.5’s fit me perfectly.
Fit: The fit Felt pretty snug around the ankle and back part of my foot. Not tight but snug in a good way snug. Then as you get towards the middle to the front of the boot it widens out to give your foot room to flex and help you turn. It’s going to work well for a wide variety of foot widths. The narrow back can keep narrow feet from sliding around and it widens out enough to handle mid-width feet like mine.
Comfort: From the first turn, I had not a single issue and it felt like I was riding a boot heat molded for my foot. I was really impressed.
Flex: The flex is medium bordering on medium soft and it gives you pretty good freedom of movement.
Flex Retention: I can’t speak long term on the K2 Ender but based on the construction quality and some of my friends that also ride these boots they seem like they hold up well and will retain their flex well enough for a 100 day a year rider.
Footprint: The footprint is not that bad overall and it’s come down in size. I had a size 9 to demo which was massive in size compared to my 8.5 Adidas. However, in comparing an 8.5 K2 boot, which fits me well better, to my 8.5 Adidas that is super reduced in footprint it wasn’t that bad.
Turn Initiation: The K2 Ender has a nice smooth boot with medium turn initiation that is a little better than it’s flex.
Shock Absorption: Mid-level shock absorption that isn’t a lot to write home about but it does have a good feel underfoot and you aren’t punishing your joints with this boot. If you like a more skate-like feel underfoot then this has a good feeling.
Heel Hold: Amazing heel hold and especially so for a traditional lace boot. The BOA really helps lock in the ankle. If you have heel lift issues K2 is one of the best out there for this.
Adjustability: The traditional lace and BOA combo is great for adjustability and does not fear those laces. Yeah, it’s slower but you can always dial out your fit perfectly.
Traction: Very good rubber sole and it grips really well.
On & Off Ease: It’s a little slow compared to speed lace and BOA but it’s not a deal breaker.
So all in all the K2 Ender is a great boot for those that want a very adjustable, comfortable mellow flexing boot.
K2 Ender Past Reviews
The K2 Ender is new this year and packs a lot of higher end K2 tech into a mid flexing boot. It’s not just for freestyle riders but for anyone who likes a mid flexing boot that will last a long time.
Flex: Very mid level flex that has room for those who like a little range of movement.
Comfort: Like all higher end K2 boots the Ender is very comfortable and doesn’t have a long break in period.
Heel Hold: the BOA liner helps keep the ankle locked pretty well but then it’s up to you to make sure you lace up the outer shell correctly. It’s still great hold but just not as good as the K2 double or triple BOA boots in K2’s line.
Adjustability: It’s not quick but you can dial out your upper and lower if you know how to tie the right knots like a mountaineers not. If so you can create a complete separation from upper and lower as well as dial out each rung of the upper. It’s not easy but it’s very customizable.
Flex Retention: The Ender has “Endo” construction and that just makes any boot last a really long time. The flex will break down a little in the front but the Urethane support in the back will keep the boot from completely breaking down. So day 100 will be pretty close to Day 1.
Response: This right there in the middle and has a nice balance of freedom and response.
Traction: There is pretty good traction here and most icy parking lots will be doable.
Shock Absorption: K2 has good shock absorption compared to many companies out there and the K2 Ender is no exception.
All in all the K2 Ender is a solid boot that is very comfortable and could work if you don’t need or care about reduced footprint technology.
