Gnu B-Free 2017 - 2014 Review by The Good Ride
The Gnu B-Free Binding is one of the only quick release companies we are ok with. Yes, you can get better performance with traditional strap bindings but Gnu is getting their bindings to perform and feel better than most quick release/ quick strap manufacturers. If you must have a quick strap then this isn’t a bad choice.
Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews. No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.
Flex: pretty middle ground flex that fits a wide variety of riders preferences.
Adjustability: This isn’t super easy to dial out but with a little patience you can dial out this binding to fit you well.
Comfort: The Gnu B-Free is not going to cause pressure points with most riders. Often times we have awkward moments with quick release bindings and they are hard to get comfortable. This is better than most quick release bindings.
Heel-Toe Response: The reduced contact with the board makes the Gnu B-Free transfer energy from edge to edge very well.
Tip-Tail Response: While its great edge to edge it’s not as good when it comes to flexing the board from tip to tail. Still, its bigger ankle strap and foam under the main contact points allows the board to flex rather well underfoot.
Boot Support: The ankle strap does a good job of locking in your boot. This is mainly because of the pressure relief system they created. Not only does it allow you to have relief on the chair but it also allows you (once dialed in) to create firm support around the ankle with one motion instead of micro adjusting with ratchets like you do with their quick strap competitors. Not a bad idea and it actually offers support similar to most good traditional strap bindings.
Ratchet System: Nothing to write home about but you will be mainly using the pressure relief system so it doesn’t matter too much.
Shock Absorption: There is EVA foam and Gel around the aluminum base plate

Awesome!!!
I used to ride with Burton Lexa Bindings. I thought those were good and was apprehensive to use rear entry bindings. Now I will never go back to regular bindings. This are the best of the line!!! So fast and they adjust like a glove to your boot!
