Smith Maze 2015 - 2012 Review by The Good Ride

The Smith Maze is a warm light helmet for cold people. We like Smith due to the goggle vents in the front of the helmet.  Even though this helmet doesn’t compete as well in some areas it’s still worth a good look. It’s arguably the lightest helmet on the market and most helmets of this design are almost twice the weight.

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

The Smith Maze has a unique venting system with a vent in the front that feeds into channels that run throughout the helmet to some vents in the back.  It also has a flap in the back that can cover the vents or open them up.  This is much better than the removable plugs that many helmets have.  It also does have minor venting for the Goggles but it’s not like the Smith Variant and some of the other high-end helmets when it comes to venting.  We haven’t had this out on a really warm day so we can’t say if the venting system is going to perform like traditional venting systems.  The profile is decent for a helmet of this price range and it will offer good protection and warmth.  So if you want a skate style helmet but want something light then the Smith Maze might work very well for you.

Originally, I though I gonna go and buy smith gage, but it was really big and bulky, and I didn't like colours which was presented in my local shop. Then I take a look at maze. I knew it was good helmet from many reviews that I've read, but when I weared it, I understood that it is my choice. It fits great, looks cool and I did not feel the excess weight of this helmet on my head. Plus I had smith I/O that is a perfect pair for this helmet by the colours, fit and extra venting. And I also do not like the earpads in gage, they are flimsy and fall of too easy. Maze do not have these drawbacks, if to be honest, Maze do not have any drawbacks (at least for 1 season). It was a bit pricy for me, but I do not regret a single cent that I've spent on this helmet.
